Allan - most moderators are human. I'm not certain anyone's proved that in Nick's case, admittedly . . . .

Ah diesel.... only good for pulling caravans
Now if you want real power from a 2ltr...... 200+lbs at 2000rpm, 331lbs at 3500rpm

the only time diesel is quicker than a scoob is when it is in a can in the boot of an aston martin !!

Tony, that sounds good, serious whale choking amounts!

Tis a pity that at 2000rpm I only have 250+ and at 3500 a meagre 365

Sad that a Scoob can't put up a good fight even against diesels nowadays.....
you are comparing against the cream of the diesel engine, why not compare like with like.

How does it compare to the BMW M5 ?

exactly

Lets see, Diesel or M5?

From this thread my money would be on the diesel. Especially if one of you Diesel owners who are posting has anything to go by!!

Dunno on the 535d v the M5, would be close I reckon

Just looked at the stats for the 535d and it is a bit of a beast 273bhp and 560nm of torque New M5 looks even more scarey, 507bhp and 520nM of torque :feckmesmiley:

Shame they are so lardy at 1735 and 1830kg respectively

yes but everyone knows that tractors run on red diesel which is poo compared to the more expensive stuff

I will however have the best of both worlds soon... just ordered a new UK spec STi and am giving the 03 Golf GT TDi (130bhp) to the wife

Think I may be pinching the diesel back on the long haul journeys to save on the fuel (then again)

Moderators rely on your faith, for without faith, what are we?

FWIW my money would be on the M5, but I'd be willing to place money that there'd be some instances when the M5 was nervous. Not many, granted

What with this thread, and the Civic Type R thread, I think scoobynet is covering the power vs torque argument quite conclusively.

There is no right answer . But anyone who hasn't driven a performance diesel really should go and try one - I was truly stunned, and as a result the scoob has gone. I'm afraid I don't count the new golf 2.0 TDI as a performance diesel... The old 1.9 seemed better to me?

the PD 150 was marginally faster, but the 2.0 GT handling is significantly improved,as is steering response and feel.Altogther, the Mrk V 2.0 is a far better car (I've got one and had the other)

and they can both **** on the newer breed of pikey Impreza owner, only the old blokes who drive like ***** can keep up with me (or the old blokes that don't drive like ***** but have awesome cars, like Theo,or maybe drive like ***** AND have an awesome car, like Docjock)

so by definition, unless your golf is soooooo much faster than an impreza you are not trying and you would also be 'driving like a ****'...just wondering

Last edited by trails; 25 February 2005 at 08:03 PM. Reason: missed out an and and turned into a pikey

if it is written in pikey you must be fluent because you just interpreted it perfectly...maybe, if, i, used, a, few, more, commas, it, would, be, acceptable, to, you?

Oi Aston, I resent that.

I keep up with you purely because of my ****-like skills.
The car is irrelevant.

Well it's looking like we're not going to see this cooking (sorry roasting) video, perhaps it was only a simmering after all

Makes you think about some of these claims doesn't it.

to be fair the latest breed of common rail diesels are fantastic improvement on 'traditional' diesels you need to drive one to really appreciate them...they are a fantastic engines especially on long journeys; effortless to drive and they will surprise a lot of cars.

The last time we met you were driving an Impreza, how come Mr dba is saying you have an awesome car, when he started off suggesting that an Sti was nothing to right home about.

Is this a wind up

I haven't knocked diesels once (no pun intended), I'm referring to the tt claim at the start of the thread

I actually agree with you.
