Cheers. Another option for me to add in then! I think the standard black might look a bit matt and dull in comparison.

Golf GTI with 18" wheels and DSG is getting on for £23000, you would have to be insane to pay that for a golf

As a VW slaesman I can confirm there are no deals on the new GTi. My order book is overflowing for the car and I am quoting delivery of September onwards now. The car is great in my mind - much better I feel than a standard WRX! Yes it has less power and only 2 wheel drive in comparison to a Scoob but it 'drives better with great low down power. Leather is a must in my mind as I don't like the 'retro 70's' cloth

I px'd my last golf v6 for a scooby wrx recently and would never consider a VW ever again. Just my opinion but it was bloody awful, broke down 12 times in 2 years so I sold the sack of **** and will never go back as a result. I would of deffo bought the gti if not for this experience as its a sound buy for all other reasons and maybe I just had a bad one (check out mkivs and this does not seem to be the case however).

I would say that my dealer was brilliant, shame the car had been put together by umpa lumpas!!

Consider yourself lucky! My car is great, however it`s the service department I use who are staffed by umpa lumpas.

VW service are probably the worst I`ve ever dealt with.

Service is as always dealer dependent. One of my local dealers is great and the other crap.

Having had over 7 New MK4 GTI's Ive never had a single problem... call me lucky !

It the dealers that are a shower of S1-1it. The dealer my car came from (HOLLIS MOTORS) are nothing short of EXCELLENT.
But i have 4 other dealers closer to me .... That are terrible in every respect.

I feel its the dealers that let VW down.

Wish - Great car - lovely colour (doesn't highlight all that plastic too much)!

I'm going to test drive one shortly to see if it's good enough to replace my 03 WRX.

I think a metallic black 5 door manual, with sunroof, Cd changer, zenons and the 18's would be perfect!

Had mine for 5 days now and i must admit am very impressed. The car just looks so right on the 18"s in black. I love the blue lighting (how sad!) Been bopping about everywhere in it finding excuses to go for a quick spin. A little dissapointed with the performance so far but i suppose it needs afew more miles under its belt which is why i'm not going to write too much in depth.

Wouldn't go for the DSG personally. Its a great system making SMG on my CSL seem medieval, but that the problem - its too smooth for its own good. SMG involves DSG doesn't. Plus it costs far too much

Talking Good points

I know what you mean about the expensive option of DSG!

Having some second thoughts at the moment. GTi = big tax bill as it's a company car and I would have to contribute in a couple of years time as the allowance is going down

So, current thinking is get an Octavia Diesel, and then chop in the Westie and the Fabia VRs to get an Elise!!! Went and test drove a 111R at JCT in Leeds today and it ws rather nice.

Choices to be made once we get the figures ....
