I thought long and hard about a 2 year old 330d Sport when the Cooper S had to go. In the end I went for the MY05 WRX because I couldn't see why I should spend loads when the new shape was just round the corner (main dealers were ferociously expensive too). Like a few other people I also use a diesel during the week (wife's 1.9 Megane - bags of torque - up to a point) and it sips the black stuff. Once she goes back to the work though the Scoob will be used for commutting but I know what you mean. Economically it's madness, but I don't do high miles so every day I do just puts a grin on my face. I love to think of her driving our boys about in the Scoob all day too - she looks as cool as anything in it!

when i was a bit younger and a bit dafter
i got sick of splashing so much money out on petrol and upkeep for thirsty machines (twin 40 carbs and highlift cams etc etc)

i felt like it was just costing me far to much money for the limited enjoyment i was getting from it, so i flogged it and bought a diesel, that was me, mr sensible, stayed standerd for about 2 weeks then i started messing around with it (1.7td veccy)

just the looks you understand, nice gsi bodykit and alloys

anyway i got bored with it after a while and started whacking the turbo boost right up, modding the fuel pump LOL

flogged it and jumped into a 276bhp wrx

although there IS days when i wish i still had the derv, (like the 660 mile round trip i have just done to see my G/F) the best bit for me at the moment, is when i make my final fuel stop of the trip home, its tanked up, i KNOW theres no way on earth i can use a full tank of optimax in the last 60/80 miles left towards my house, and i let the ******* rip up the A1

I will miss that sort of thing, you're absolutely right . On the other hand my WRX was standard and, TBH, not actually that fast... The way it delivers power always made me grin tho - there's nothing like a turbo to show you how slow a car can be (laaaag) and then push along at a fair old rate

Blimey again... I've just phoned up Flux to get my insurance changed over from the WRX to a 330D sport tourer.

"361 pounds sir".
Pardon - 361 quid for 16 days of cover left?
"No sir, that's the annual premium for last year. We'd give you £14 back, but our administration charges are more than that."
Thank you very much.

This years premium? £341.02

Flaming heck.

Welcome to the world of non-scoob ownership

Cheap insurance is lovely isn't it? I just insured my car fully comp for under £300
