maybe chavs and junkies mate, but not all owners

i tried and spent money to save my cat and then my dog, but couldnt.

read the posts - I worked for a vet - I found it frustrating that people didn't want to pay for treatment, but would cry their lamps out when the dog died. In my opinion, pet insurance should be mandatory. That said, working for a vet still hardens you to the emotional side... after some time, killing puppies and kittens becomes the norm......... not something to be proud off really

i agree with u on the insurance part mate and also regarding the less sensitive feelings of being a vet, ive seen nurses , when someone dies they say sorry your such and such died etc but its normal for them and u see it in their faces , they are hardened up. till it happens to their own of course

but their should be a law that all people should have insurance for pets and pets aint allowed for children if their gonna neglect them

my dad was right, when i was a wee lad he wouldnt let me have a rottie, but at the end he got sick of me being sad that he got me one, he was right all way through, coz i had a massive garden used to let my dog run around so neglected the 3 times a day walks coz i knew she could run around and play in the garden, i used to get slapped from my dad when i was older coz i didnt take her out for walks 3 times a day, he used to say to me its the worst thing he ever done is get a child a dog.

she was my best pal, luv her to bits but i was too young for a dog and its sad some parents give into their children.

she was so muscley, it was awesome, coz she was always running around in the garden, u could see her veins and muscles awesome, miss her loads.

true sally, its sad u know the last look in their eyes before their gonna get put down, same with my hamster, i didnt have the gutts to see it, my wife took him out of his cage , aww she said it was like he was sleeping, when he died after 2 yrs, she put him in a box and i buried him, i couldnt see my lil pets dying

we had our cat for 20 yrs or so, see the old lady down the road had a tabby, she died and the children let the cat astray, we took him in, his name was clive i named him, when i was 8 and we looked after him he was a few yrs old then we put him down when i was 22 or something he had a tumor in his stomach

he was a nasty lil one to my fish though, used to sneak in and eat my goldfish he was awesome though, used to luv sleeping on my chest in the morn whe i was in bed

always had pets especially dogs and treated them as equals indeed they get better treatment than we do on the NHS. just cannot understand people who mistreat animals but then i suppose thats where our serial killers etc come from. no disrespect to big yin who im sure is suffering a great deal at the moment as we have all done but imo its part and parcel with pet ownership ......... u make the end comfortable and someone has to make that decision however painful, its the last act of love for your pet

Well Fast Bloke you really are a very manly chap with your views, and you may well be right.

Doesn't hurt though to say something in consolation to a person who is genuinely upset at the problem with his pet. The rest of it has no place in a thread like this one.

update on my little dog. he is still with us. woke up on saturday morning and he was alot more alert. he was eating and drinking and walking around as normal. so we took him to the vets and she said that he has now got to have a blood test on monday morning. after going to the vets he was ok for a while but now he seems very ill again.

he is not eating and just lies down in his bed and sleeps. it's still not looking too good for monday now but at least we get two more days with him.
thanks for all the comments and support

Poor old sausage. Did vet give you any ideas as to what was wrong? Heart? 12 is not super old for most dogs. Usually blood results take a day or so so you might want to ask the vet for some medication for your dog if he gets poorly when you can't get to the vet - just something to calm him down or whatever. That'll save you worrying if he gets poorly in middle of night for example. Fingers crossed. DL
