So your saying that by playing with the DCCD switch in my new 25 grand motor,is only going to increase my chances of unwillingly bending it

don't forget I'm middle aged

Engine not properly up to temp, brakes werent bedded in (only 5 miles on clock) and the thing just felt a bit tight. Had to take it back as it was still to be registered. Impressions? Turn in superb, comfort good, build quality excellent. Performance? No idea.

Felt 40bhp down on my modded classic,(290) but bearing in mind coldish engine (I probably only did a total of 3 miles!) could maybe feel quicker when warm/run in.
Brakes? Good firm pedal, but they werent bedded in so no idea of power. Coming from AP's on mine I really wanted to get a feel for them aswell.
Trouble is finding somewhere fairly local that has one available to test.

Any comments on the missing bits of my test drive would be appreciated. Daz

You can just leave it in Auto, but putting it manual shows some nice colours on your dash and moving the dial changes them
You wont regret getting a car with A-DCCD

Tony... I thought the US got the 2.5 in the first place because the 2.0 would not meet Californian emission laws and the 2.5 would?? That's what I read in one of the motoring mags anyway...
Well the mag I read said the poor quality fuel in the US wasn't enough to support 300bhp on the 2.0.

Hence they used a 2.5

Which mag do we believe?

Now you could say that quick rack steering is a gimick over the fast rack, but drive a car with a quick rack and feel the difference, much better turn in, the A-DCCD is the same, it aids your driving giving better control/balance, and once you have driven a car with it, you will understand

Tony
On the import front (er Motorpoint...cough) You can get the new STi 05 in either DCCD or non DCCD, a saving of £1k.
The demo I drove had DCCD, but I had it set in Auto. Would this then behave the same as a STi 05 without DCCD?
I think what I'm trying to say is that unless your doing powerslides, and some sideways action would you really feel the benifits?

an official 2.5 with 360+ lb ft would be great, if at a similar price (T25 tooo expensive for most enthusiasts) - providing:

1) similar shape to present - definitely none of the proposed Frankenstein themeing -just bigger blister arches + 2 door option and set up for 19" moderate profile tyres and lowered slightly

2)Audi style phenomenol DSG paddle shift - can you imagine what 360 lb ft Scoob would feel like if there was no neck dislocating lurch during gear changes - just one big slug of torque through to a hundred - not to mention the perfect power blipping coming down the box - no doubt accompanied with a ,thwack, from the xhaust

3)Optional 'Lux pack' for interior to include Legacy level of leather and a real Stereo system (the centre blue leather is fine, but that sort of nylon sixties weave is truly hideous and gives the breed a bad name

4) Electronically adjustable damper settings for Track, Sport & Comfort

5) Higher 6th gear for better cruising fuel economy + better designing to provide 25% better fuel economy on less than 2/3rds throttle - how many times have you driven at 50 mph for miles on vapour praying you can find another SL station - let alone optimax...

Come on guys - lets start an enthusiasts realistic wish list - if we can keep it real we can get Prodrive and I.M. to submit it to STI for consideration?

A car without DCCD has a near enough 50/50 power distribution.

A DCCD car has 65 R / 35 F.

So yes you would feel a difference.

65/35 is a better drivers setup.

i don't believe it will ,only , and i mean this with the greatest respect , if you are an idiot and think that dccd is nirvana , ie it is not the driving aid that will turn you into petter solberg ,

Just a comment that most drivers don't seem to like the DSG - "it's too good" seems to be the comment. Hell, I'd like to have a personal opinion on it, but all the same I thought I'd pass one evo's thoughts

In the same way that steptronic/tiptronic isn't everyone's cup o' tea. Power (or torque) just surges through in a continuous stream from 1st to 2nd to 3rd etc. bloody clever, and probably quite fast , but does it give you a "thrill"?

I take your point - but 'quite quick' - nope - very quick - because of the nature of 6 sp close ratio coupled to restricted power band and albeit minimal lag on Prodrive - the difference would be night and day say 20 to 100 (conventional gearchange isnt exactly lightening because of design and large torque reserves anyway) - I love Mcrae rally as much for the paddle shift as the handling - I would LOVE to try aT25 type car with sorted DSG.....

Next you'll be wanting an automatic

I'm old fashioned when it comes to gearboxes, but you're right - it would be bloody interesting! Gizza go when you've had your turn
