<sigh>

I'm stuck at the end of a line and will be lucky to see ANY increase from my measily 512Kb/sec.

They SAY that I will get the fastest that they can... I'll be amazed if I get any more at all to be honest.

Got an e-mail from Nildram yesterday that my speed is being increased to 2mbps and that the price is going down to £25.99 a month from July. If you want to be upgraded now and your exchange is enabled you can pay £12.93.
The download limit is being decreased to 50gb a month from 150gb.

Just agreed to have NTL come round on Tuesday to give me 1.5meg as BT say they cant do anything for me and in the next breath they send a mail talking of a 2meg upgrade ....grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Will keep BT going and see what happens to my speed between now and 15th I think.

After I posted above, tried Speedtest, and found I was now at 2mb service, getting 256 up and 2200bps download.

Speed is a bit better for web pages, depends on the route they take to get from there top here, but downloading files is fine - 280 - 290 kbps !

Other busy services are slower tho.

Useful free upgrade anyway!

well i'm a little miffed as i was on a 512k and i got a letter from bt today saying i was getting upgraded to 2mb, but its capped to 15gb a month where i was on an unlimited amount i think its a bit of a dirty trick. think they'll be getting a phone call would rather have unlimited 512k than 15gb @ 2mb

Well, if you downloaded CONSTANTLY at 512K for a whole month, you could download 162Gb.
But your connection is shared with other users with a 50:1 contention ratio, so strictly speaking, you're only entitled to 1/50th of this bandwidth. Which would give you just over 3 Gb.

but what about downloading torrents and such like quite easy to download 1gb a night if i leave it on over night. yes i know its unlikely that i'll do 1gb every night, but i'm used to having the freedom of unlimited and not worrying about how much i have left towards the end of the month

BT put a limit on all accounts last August. I called them to complain about the 15 gig limit and they told me to check my email from then. Sure enough they had sent a mail stating the change.

Just noticed that I've been upgraded - Didn't see much difference TBTO

Anyone else that hasn't been upgraded yet received this email from BT??

Dear Mr Adams,

We're committed to keeping you informed about the progress of your upgrade to faster BT Yahoo! Broadband 2Mb.

I'm sorry to say that we've been testing your broadband line and haven't yet been able to get it to support the faster service. We're still trying, and we'll be in touch again as soon as possible.

I just wanted you to know that we're doing our very best to upgrade your line, but please be prepared for the possibility that your line may not be able to support the faster service.

We'll be in touch again by 31st March.

Thank you for your patience.

Best wishes,

Gavin Patterson

I've just had the same e-mail as Nick Adams - the 'be prepared it may not be any faster' one - presumably they can't charge me the same as other customers who are getting 2Mb???

Check your speed at this website, http://bandwidthplace.com/speedtest/ then check it at this one http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/band-test/

Instant speed upgrade!

Now can anyone explain why they are consistantly different by a good 15%? Surely a speed is a speed?

When BT sent me the letter saying the 2meg lin would be capped to 30GB I switched to Pipex

I went from £26 a month on BT to £23 for the unlimited 1 meg line with pipex, within two days of being with pipex I got an Email sying they were upgading my line to 2Meg and would still keep the unlimited bandwidth

I get free webspace from them and lots of Email boxes too think I scored
