who are the "obsessed" ones? and how do you know so many to understand how they neglect deep aspects of life???
you are talking complete crap.

Whoaahh, easy tiger. You might have a point with those people primarily concerned with "image", i'll grant you that, but materialism does NOT necessarily equate to not having the ability to appreciate all the other things life has to offer, if we're going to start getting intellectual about it.

Everything that I have said is based on my experiences in life, and the people that I have encountered. If your experiences are different, then great!

Who said threads need to make sense? A lot of people on here wouldn't realise they were having the p1ss taken out of them if someone came upto them wearing an
"I'm taking the p1ss out of YOU" T-shirt and announced through a megaphone "I'm taking the p1ss out of you, you vile pile of ordure"
That's because they have their heads stuck so firmly up their a55es they can't see the rest of us laughing at them.

At this rate, with all these accusations flying around someone will be accusing me of being another user under an alias next.

Why are people so vain and so shallow that they are so preocuppied with what other people might think of them, and living up to other's expectations?
I think it's so laughable when people spend time comparing their expensive watches and boasting about how much they spent on them. Be realistic - there is only one reason why you would spend that much money on a watch that is no better than a £100 Seiko - you buy it purely so that you can wear it on your wrist as a trophy - "Look, I spent £5000 on a watch, I'm really cool"
People always come up with the old; "yeah but, the quality's so much better" as a justification for the expense. Yet, if you lived alone on a desert island, are you telling me that you'd still hanker for your Rolex, with no-one to show it off to? Don't kid yourself, you aren't buying a watch for it's supreme quality, you're buying it for the Brand and the perceived exclusiveness that it carries.
Now don't get me wrong, I am often the first to buy 'the best', but only in cases where paying the extra is going to apportion some significant extra benefit. For example, I would rather spend the extra on a 'top end' mountain bike, becuase the components will all be lighter and work better for longer, hence making the bike more of a pleasure to ride. But image, never comes into it.
Why don't people just relax and enjoy themselves, without worrying about this constant pathetic charade of trophy wearing and image paranoia? I can guarantee, life's so much sweeter..
Mart.

Me too, It's an opinion on what drives them to own it and what that says about them. Think of it as reading between the lines.
I don't think anyone here is proposing that expensive watch fanciers should be denied THEIR right to spend their cash as they choose. Likewise commentators shouldn't be denied THEIR right to conclude that those choosing such a timepiece are showy tw@ts with little taste or style. OK?

I'm sure some people with expensive watches are showing off, hell - why not?? Just like putting alloys on your car, makes you no faster but I bet any money that someone from the "anti watch brigade" have put a set of alloys on their motors.
Some people appreciate quality, some don't. Some don't care but to moan and whine about it shows an inherant insecurity coupled with the fact they're basically damn right bored.
