Been playing since 1989 - boy does THAT make me old!

Played, Marshalled - been on invite only days (300 people, ALL experienced / marhsalls / site OWNERS all day game in TWO teams, and I was one of the team captains... 3 captains per side (I had the comms job talking to the hit squads out and about).

Got invited to train with the site team at my favourite site some time back - declined when I found out they were the European Champs at the time... bit out of my league!

Advice for newbies.

1. Good footwear is essential. You would not believe the people that wear WHITE trainers all the time. They are VERY easy to spot. Wear something with good ankle support and tie them TIGHT.
2. Expect to get dirty / bruised / hurt / cut / knackered. It WILL happen. This is the fun of it. Trust me on this.
3. LISTEN TO THE BLOODY SAFETY TALK AT THE START. Believe me it is VERY frustrating when some muppet thinks he knows it all and puts people in danger 'cos he breaches rules (loaded guns in the base when NO ONE has a mask on?)
4. Change of clothes. Take one.
5. Have a budget. TRY and stick to it. Buy in bulk with your mates and split the costs.
6. Fingerless gloves are okay... I have armoured ones myself, they make a hell of a difference.
7. The human eye is designed to focus on movement. If you want to remain unseen in an open game, DON'T move. I have had a guy no more than 4 foot from me, with nothing but a leafless bush between us, not realise I was there until I moved and shot him. God that was funny.
8. Make sure you have arranged to meet down the pub afterwards. Get home. Get showered, fed and meet up - the conversation is GREAT.
9. Make sure you 'stir' the paintballs in the hopper.... the paint can settle in them and they describe some AMAZING spirals on occaision.
10. Don't waste shots, BUT and this is a BIG but... It is VERY intimidating when you plaster someone with paint... if you want to get to somewhere just blast at the guy stopping you and walk to it..newbies are very nervous about this.
11. DON'T CHEAT. If you do, others will and it utterly ruins the day.
12. Aim for hard points on the target: gun, thighes, lower arms. Paint bursts more easily and you get your kills in more quickly. I was alone against 10 people last time I played and came out on top cos their shots went wild or bounced, while I was hitting hard points and making kills. My screaming and ducking and diving and almost machine-gun like use of the gun may have helped
13. Don't shout "MY GUN'S JAMMED!!!!" in the middle of a fire fight. Not unless you want to end up Duluxed.
14. Load up the hopper at END of the game. Gets you out to the next one more quickly.
15. Do NOT EVER EVER EVER pick up paint that has dropped on the floor. EVER. It gets dirty and wet and WILL explode in the barrel. I have a gun cleaner. You won't have.
16. NEVER remove your fask mask unless instructed to by a Marshall or you are in a safety zone. People have been blinded. No really, they have.
17. Your mask will steam up. It happens.. I have a thermal lens on my mask which totally stops this.. you need to use the calotherm spray to clean the lens and then LET IT DRY on the lens.

Hope this helps....

I got hit on the face by a paintball at about 10 metres, and let me tell you it stings like f00k.
And yes, i did have my mask on, but i was lookin skywards and got hit square on my chin, which left a circular cut accompanied by blood splat.

Oh Yes - I go all the way back to the Daystate Mk1!!! BOLT action pistol with the 12 round TUBE poking out the back. BEFORE the Sterling

The first gun I picked up was the Splatmaster.. God that p.o.s. was a nightmare

The day I got hold of the Daystate MKIII with its PUMP action feed was a revelation

I organised so many days out at the site (Oh it was the Who Dares Play site out at Basset Pole - Sutton Colefield, but I started there when it was a Skirmish site) I even managed to get the site to open mid-week, and they were only allowed 5 of them in a year. I took 75 students down on that day and had a riot We even got the Armed Police involved... long, long story involving 4 guys in full DPM battle dress in a battered chevette registered to a guy in Northern Ireland being spotted by a little old dear in Rugeley.

Anyway - let us know about the day! We can all start swapping war stories then

Oh yeah, another tip. When you see someone trying to be sneaky and you're in defense... SHOUT. Shout loud clear and often. It really puts the wind up people when they know they've been spotted
