I came around a corner doing a steady 20-25 ish becuase of muddy road. I was greeted by a pairs of eyes lit up in the middle of the road, fairly certain a Fox I just swerved abit and went on to the grass was unfortunately it was only few inches wide then a 3ft x 6ft deep ditch the car just went over the edge.

I did panic and tried to kick out the damaged windscreen but only ended up hurting my toe, just couln't kick it out my only other injury was bruise to shoulder. My mate had turned around looking for me, though I was lost, climbed on car and helped me out of the Drivers door and then a local Farmer came to help. The car 2 wheels level with edge of the grass and concrete drain. I seemed to be stuck in there for ages, just lucky it was at low speed wasn't full of water, doesn't bare thinking about.

The farmer got his Tractor and managed to pull it out took an hour or so. it did fall back once denting the roof a bit more

Sorry but I did have a cry when I saw the mess.

I got the Car started, cut hand on windscreen cleaning it and drove it to the main road testimony to the strenth of the Car. and I then managed to get a phone signal and called Subaru assistance

This Looks like another £5-7k bill I don't think I'll be able to afford insurance without any NCB and could mean the end of the road for Subaru ownership
My misses is so upset and blaming Racing cars, wholesale wants me to get repaired, flog it and get a people carrier or a pushbike

T5NYW,
Unless prices have jumped dramatically over the last 12 months the 1K for a screen is WAY OUT.

27/03/04
Screen £141.58
Dam Rubber £19.44
Screen Moulding £34.19
Fitting £55 incl VAT at RAC windscreens (the fitting price was trade price)
Total with VAT £294 (retail prices, not trade)

These are genuine Subaru parts from main dealer, and the screen says SUBARU on it.
I have the same car as you. My02 STi Type UK.

Cheers

So, don't just assume that your going to be shafted on your renewal.
Shop around at renewal time and you may be suprised.....
I can ditto that lost my NCD in 4 months of madness thought renewal time would kill me in very high risk B17 Postcode but shopped around, some kind insurer will consider you. NU wanted 2600 to keep me LVF kept me for 1200 with intro NCB. Also now been a good lad for 3 years, hope this year to get back down to premiums below 700 again.

Good god tony.
If you want to go off roading, why did'nt you ask to borrow twin airbags

What happened to your mate driving the discovery?

Does the broken toe mean that you will be out of action for the next 6 months and be forced to have daily bed baths by the trainee nurses at the local hospital

Ooopps
Hope Anne does'nt read this

LOL, in so ways this would have been worse than Castle C. as it was a big ditch

He came back looking for me, thought I was lost pulled me out of the Drivers window. Had to give him and the Farmer a Bollocking for standing on my doors without muddy shoes on slippers only

Biggest P** off PX was £16.5K(he'd had buyer) and £10K to new Sti before the end of month Worked out it out now, MOT, Service,Tracker, Warranty and Insurance excess = £2.5K. Now dealer has said, in May PX price will be more like £13.5K tops

So this little prang will cost me £5K in real terms and loss of NCB

Tony

Ps.

Going to look for a tall Tree and a short rope

Dan,
If I hadn't gone down that road, hindsight wonderfull tool 2 weeks time the deal would have been done, my old car gone as a deposit. I would just be waiting for a nice new shiney STi to arrive My mother-in-laws Metro would have in the ditch instead Just real bad timing

I was hoping to get a new MY05PPP but looks like now I will about £5K short to change now Once I get it back, I may just look for a MY05 Demostrator or MY04PPP .

Fair play m8

hopefully the "downgrade" to a 05 demo or 04ppp won't be too traumatic

Either way, the Scooby scene wouldn't be the same without you

speak soon m8

Yes the missus has calmed down a bit was giving me grief at Sunday Lunch again I explained, "I've listen to this **** for days now and not complained, now shut the F*** up" ( I never swear at home or infront of kids) but kids (22 & 15) burst out laughing

Yep will still be coming to Japfest but have had to cancel Track session

Maybe not, but I L&V they are so easy and nice people to deal with

The previous accident on Saturday rang them on Sunday, the recieved quote on Tuesday, assessor came Thursday, L&V gave go ahead Friday

I rang today to check the situatoin with PNCB beause a reported an incident but never claimed. they closed it and said NCB is in tact my screen on my mobile was broken, I trod on it when car was on it's side. £130 to repair, they said no problem and a cheque in the Post

I can also buy a seperate insurance to Protect my Protected NCB

I can highly recommend L&V

so looks on that front I'll be OK

Tony

Ps Just for you gorrie lot I'm going tomorrow to pick up Courtousy car so will take the Camera

I went to get Courtesy car today and have a look at the car It looks like now it will be written off, nearly £19+K worth of Damage Kin Hell. Got to wait for an assessor yet, though.

It certainly looks far worse in the daylight, I will post some pics later on tonight

I'm fairly saddened but after 2 major crunches, it would have been always a lame Dog could never sold as "One Careful owner". So in that sence I will be relieved that it might be put down.

Gawd almighty, that is some serious chassis twisting bumper crunching damage. And you managed to escape realtively unscathed from it.

I think I'd be cutting my losses and take the insurance money. Just a question of what you can get to replace it.

T5NYW,
If the insurance decide to write it off, and pay you market value, be careful about how you go about re-insuring your next car with them.
According to posts on here they are only continuing insuring modified (PPP) cars with existing customers, and allegedly refusing new business.
Tunnelmeister (Steve F) who had his P1 stolen from Donnington initially had difficulty getting insurance for the 22B he was going to buy to replace it.
IIRC he eventually insured with his original company (L & V?) as a replacement vehicle, ie just changed the vehicle details on his existing policy, not starting a brand new policy.

It would be worthwhile having a chat to ascertain how best to play the situation.

Sorry to here about the car.
The windscreen kicking out thing, by the way, is probably still possible ONLY with windscreen that are still held in with a rubber seal,ie Mk1 & 2 Escorts NOT the polysulphide (thats aerospace gear, but looks similar) type sealents/adhesives that modern cars use.

Cheers

Many thanks for the advice, hadn't thought of that, I'll defenately bear that in mind I might also have trouble with my Private plate is it is wrote off IIRC must say I have found L&V really helpful
