Impreza 0 Golf 2?

I'm beginning to find threads like this incredibly tedious. Even the people that like Subarus don't seem to like Subarus. I sometimes find myself asking what the point of the site is when even the so-called "enthusiasts" don't seem to be enthusiastic.

That's the spirit.
I myself couldn't drive the well-known greasy stick up the famous dog's **** ((c) TaviaRS). But I'm actually telling the truth. In fact, I bet I'm not even as good as Yoza.

I do love the way the goal posts get moved.
Soon it will be....
"Yeah but no, but yeah, but, what car can carry 4 people, be fast, have 4 doors, have 4wd, be made by Subaru and be called an Impreza......."

DannyB, have you been kicked off the Evo owners club web-site or something?, as for the golfs, not even heard about the dreaded gearbox gremlins ( 3 people I know with Mk4 GTi's, and all 3 have had to have gearboxes replaced, the same gearbox that goes Pete Tong in all the Skoda Octavia's). Ultimately, cross country B road bashing in wet (sometimes snowy at this time of year) choppy multi surface roads, Golf GTi - our audience says XX, Clio 172/182 sport/plastic thingumyjiggy - our audience says XX, Subaru WRX SL (preferably with PPP, prodrive springs and WR1 rims, STi spoiler) - our audience says kerching. And as a side note to DannyB, the Evo is a possibility, but why not just spend the extra money on a MR so you get the 6 speed box, better active yaw, big spoiler, better residuals, rather than a face lifted, detuned Evo7, okay-doky peeps.

WRX vs. MkV Gti (NOT Diesel)
This is (nearly) my first post, so please be gentle, but this thread seems like it could be losing the main point: the EVO comparison was between a WRX and a MkV GTi; not between a WRX and a diesel Golf. (I.e. the OP is mistaken.) From the in-gear performance figures -- not to mention several group tests of MkV GTi and WRX -- it looks like there is a valid comparison to be made there, as too from the point of view of cost of ownership.
I set my heart on a WRX having test driven a PPPd RB5, but now the new GTi has come along and the mags have said things like what the EVO article said. So, as a prospective owner, what am I to do; will I have more fun in a MY 05 WRX or in a new GTi, and how does the result of that comparison affect the (apparent) fact that the GTi will cost 20% less to run overall than a new WRX? Has anyone on here driven both? What do you think?
Cheers,
Andrew

You can always buy a PPP kit for wrx and take it to 260bhp with no loss of warranty or chassis control.

This thread is getting really boring now, lets all drive our cars (whatever they be) and be happy with it.

Unfortunately the entire point of these posts is the bashers trying to wind up anybody who will bite, however there are some here who will give you impartial advice.
Your choice will ultimately come down the driving experience and which gives you the most enjoyment in owning. They are both very good cars, at the moment for me the whole Subaru thing still lights my fire.

OK Scooby bashers lets see a vid... someone on here must have a mate with a golf Diesel with a chip on it... get a video cam and film the thing leaving a Scoob...
If i can find one i'll do it against my Sti... thats if i can film out the back window and manage to hit the ZOOOOM butoon...
Should have done it the other night when Mr 330d with superChips badge on the back, and ugly bloke tints had a dabble up the private bypass...runway
Result: not bad first and second although i did drive straight passed it and @120 looked back to see some headlights in the disstance...ooohhh about 1/2 a mile away! came belting passed after i'd slowed down whats all that about! into the 40 zone at the end of the runway still dowing warp factor 6...
So i'd say the as with most cars that are reasonbly quick once rolloing 50mph onward it takes soemthing really quick to just romp off... but pulling away even steadily is pulling away!
Throw in a few tight corners though and you've no chance in a golf Gti TD.. NO CHANCE! I've driven lots of cars HARD and there's few things that'll match the scoob or an evo for getting around any given bend! out of most bends the scoob will take full loud pedal, there's just so much more grip... sorry but thats why people buy Subaru's, the whole package is good...
+ it don't sound like a GTi TD!

show us the vids then

Take time and imagine the following:
a) you strole out of you front door, infront of you is a car that shouts "I am one fast ***** f*7ker, abuse me, come on lets go eat some road" and it makes you smile everytime you drive it.
b) you strole out of your front door, infront of you is a car that shouts "take me shopping or on the school run". You get a few more MPG and extra time to do your seat belt up while waiting for the glow plugs. You get extra economy out of it as you will never go for a "fun" drive in it just for the sake of it.
always be option a) for me

Well the same can be said to WRX owners couldn't it? Why are they driving around in a WRX when they could be in a STi with 6 speed, DCCD, big spoiler etc etc..[/QUOTE]
Why buy the WRX over an STi, for starters it's cheaper (even with all the mods), it has electric heated seats and a sunroof (for my wife who actually owns it) that you can't order from the dealer on an STi, and the wheels would cost the same to put on an STi. Finally, start threading a car across tight nasty wet B roads and single track and slightly softer damping gives a far better feel for what the car is doing, ever tried going to look for aftermarket suspension that says "will make your STi/Evo suspension softer", even at which I would be upgrading the car to make it what I need which comes standard in the WRX.

a) steering wheel lock
b) wheel clamp
c) opened the car
d) Reset the alarm as 30secs has passed and the car wont start without plipping it again
... the wife has long gone after waiting for the diesel glow plugs
p.s. still catch her up on the twisties though

No one can get you an "warrantee approved" upgrade package for your VW. Unless Oettinger do it for you. There in Germany by the way. Don't forget the bad JD Power/Top Gear customer service and reliability results. The penny will drop soon.

LOL, this is ace laugh
So a chipped Golf tdi is faster than a WRX is it? Wow, that i would like to see.
And no sarcasm there, i really would like to see that. Tis the only proof i would take.
then i would take my hat off and bow my shiny head at the tdi owner! lol

But they are ALL still members of this forum, hanging on to their past, harping on about Imprezas costing too much and diesels being fun and cheap. Shut TFU or join DieselNet!
