Now tell me, is this not the ugliest rally car you've seen?

I dare say in 20 years time there will be saying how ugly our current WRC and road cars are and look.
Design trends and engineering tastes will always alter.
The eighties were a stange era for most things but the Group b cars were built to be as fast as the manufacturers could make them go and the aerodynamics were there to stop them turning themselves inside out.
The cars were brick shaped then for most car makers so the engineering trends were to add fookin big wings and spoilers with great big booler tyres.
I doubt they looked ugly at the time and if you look at them as parts of motorsport history / evolution I don't think they should be considered ugly now.

to carry on from Mark but it's not a rally car...
I know the guy who's responsible for it too, my mate/boss and him currently produce ordinary Stratos reps in kit form if anyone fancies one!

I think looking at asthetics is missing the point somewhat. The real beauty of these things (Group B cars in general) is in the engineering.
They are almost artistic in the way you have to look at them and think "Why did they put that bit there"? "What does that funny bit do to performance"?
OK when you look at them now they do seem to look a bit hashed together all riveted and bodykits, compared to moulded carbon fibre we have now. But they were never built to be pretty, they were built to be functional and built to win. Daz

I think it was something like 0-60 in 2.6 and a top speed of 126mph at about a million revs or so it sounded like

I'll take the corner on my first 3 page thread
Personally i think the Lancia Stratos is a very nice looking car, followed one on the M5 to the rally day last year and it does look good
That Lancia Delta S4 is pshing the Metro pretty close though

Along with a Stratos and maybe a Quattro in full cry, the 6R4 is one of the most awesome sounding things ever ..... it's aesthetically ugly but I love the looks because it's an evil machine Reminds me of the Renault 5 Turbo 2
The motor is highly developed but it's still basically a 235ci Rover lump with the end two cylinders sawn off

Remember reading an article on the developement of the V64V. Buying of the engine dyno was taken over by Rover central purchasing and turned up far too late (bloody big company jobsworth know it alls). The engine suffered continual problems due to lack of development during its Grp B campagin. Wonderfull looking car though, wish i had bough one at the time but could only just afford my £3k astra
Remember the Delta S4 ECV that was to run in group S ?, 30% more power and 20% less weight as I remember, that over a car that set a time round Estoril that would have put it on the third row of the grid of that years grand prix against the turbo era F1 cars !
