Nissan Silvia turbo? The one they made before the 200sx? Can get a good one for about 6-700 quid. 135 brake as standard but 170-180 can be had for fun. Have a look here www.s12oc.com OK, I am biased cos i've just bought one but what the hell...

Then however the liklehood is your tyres will be mix and match shixtters so budget £160 for a cheap set of half decent tyres. The suspension wont be up to much so £400 (ish), you will fancy strut braces £80. We are of course assuming the car runs and keeps running. You will be better off assuming about £400 in the first 6 months for service parts such as £40 oil change every two months, air filter, plugs, leads, fluids, plus parts which will go wrong with a 15 year old 100,000 mile hot hatch.
I stand by my comment, a cheap £1,000 track car will end up costing about £2K after the first 6 months.

ps ...... it doesn't mean it isn't great fun building such a car because it is, but go in with your eyes wide open

....in know you actually said it - but I was picking up on the point about saying the car would be too slow and getting in the way.
It's often drivers of faster cars who can get in the way!
