When I was a lad (20 years ago) my pal had a Moris Minor Van that had a Rover 3.0 on an auto box. It was great - slap it into drive - take your foot off the brake and hold on .

Friend has one of these

with a Jag 5.3 V12 in it.

Unfortunately it was 90% built in 1992 and I have a feeling it's still that way in 2005. He didn't want to pay for a custom exhaust system, and hadn't sorted the front suspension.

The engine went so far back you had to take it out to change the back spark plugs!

Memories of my cousins mg maestro turbo running a hybrid turbo and a few mods.
He ran it on steel wheels as the alloys where in for refurb and the car was de bodykitted and multi colour ,bonda primer etc as was trying to make it mint..
car went like stink but looked a proper bin..he eventually did make it mint but said it wasn't fun anymore and sold it..

I remember seeing that clio, reminds me of the 2l 16v conversions that were all the rage with novas a few years back.
This sort of thing is what Car modifying is all about. Before it went all blingified and full of T&A, max power would have been breaking down your door to feature that sort of car. What a pity times have had to change
Awesome car though

My brother had a Mini 30 a bit like you describe - looked like a bog standard mini 30 (Metallic Red with black interior) and other than a couple of driving lamps and 175/60/14 (!!!) tyres it looked bog standard!
Underneath was the full 1380cc "Group A" Bill Richards conversion with 115bhp (new cams, head, pistons, rods, crank, twin carbs etc etc) Also a straight cut gearbox with shorter final drive, paddle clutch, Limited slip diff, uprated brakes, Koni dampers, bigger radiator, fuel pump, group "a" exhaust etc.

Went like a rocket - 0-60 in 6 seconds and 115mph flat out at 7,800rpm! Great fun - would eat all of the boy racers up to 100mph!

Saw this for sale in the back of one of the car mags not long ago. Re-spray it a 'normal' colour and I'd love it.

I bet it's sooo fast

That Clio is soo cool!. AND fit for purpose.

Someone getting beat to 60 by what they think is a 1.2 badged Clio.

Normally all you see these days is 1.2 Clios badged (bodged) up as 172's.

Once stuck an 1850 Maxi engine in a Mini when we were bored one weekend.. The bonnet wouldn't shut so we cut a big hole and stole my mums baking tray and riveted it to the top. Making big engines fit into little cars. Thats QED!

yeh thats tyhe whole idea mate. its just a fun car. some people on the clio forum dont seem to understand that, and call it a ****ter they wouldnt be seen in etc....!

My previous car was a clio 16v, with tuned 2.0 16v williams lump, and stripped out to the max! 180bhp and 880kg. also had 1.2 badges on that. Loved it! people used to say what the *** is that, after id just blitzed em at the lights

I didn't think that Matt would have completed it so quickly. It looks good. But Corvettes have more cred.

That car is sooooo unrelable its a joke he has used ot a lot on track days and never completed a complete day and it weighs a ton as it is full of body filler and it was a total write off. It was built for max power but they wouldnt pay for it as they thought it was ****e the guy that used to own it was the guy that did a totally awful job on my fez had the thing for 3 months and a ****e job done

?! Are you talking about the clio m8? Unreliable? He has only had the engine in for a month or so and it has never been used on a trackday and was defo not built for max power....they are more interested in cars that are the exact opposite to this ie bodykits and flashing lights.

Saw the Fennies Corolla at the GT4 Challenge Weekend on track and strip....... Holy **** that thing shifts!!

I agree that its a wee bit TOO 'tarty' on the outside to be a proper sleeper.. Where that Clio is absolutely spot on......

He not considered a 4wd system, if he could make it work, that would turn into something VERY scary in all weathers.

Keep us posted on what sort of times he runs when its all in and running well.

Cheers,
Grant

not too good mate, same with most cars i think. too wet and muddy. my old clio ran 15.4 best, and that normally runs low 14's all day. the TT clio ran a 14.1 i think still spinning in 4th over the line! lol

Roll on the summer i say

Ive got my own 'sleeper' for the boy racers. My 73 GT6. A rather nice 130bhp. Not bad for standard block and manifolds.
Oh man. Those minis. The owners think they are silly fast. Pushing redtop VX engined one and a VTEC one up rosedale chimmney last year. http://www.gt6mk3.8m.com/photo3.html
They were being rather stuck up as its a mini club run open to other classics and i was in the GT6
"you go up first we want to go fast"
"well ill go behind you chaps then"
45 seconds later
"...........you see lads its TORQUE you need up here"

Yeah the conditions where terrible....wet and really muddy. Matt went again on Monday when it was a little better (although most people were running around 1 sec above their usual) and managed a 13.8 @ 110mph so It`s gonna be pretty f`ing quick when it`s dry.

Clio is cool.. didnt see this thread.. but guess who ran against it

I missed 4th gear got 6th instead, so gave up on the run.. saw him still coming so dropped it back into 4th, wheel spun and crossed the line before him just to save face

Top Bloke had a long chat with him and he has a nice car which will be good with traction
