A few pics of the car for you guys - im expecting mid 12's @ over 115 hopefully in the dry. Raced it once at york in the wet and was getting 13.8 @ 110. Theres no LSD on the car and traction is a real problem in the wet.

Im being too observant, but the inlet manifold has been modified since on the bottom leftt and there looks to be no ecu!

Was good to meet you on monday.

Jesus mate you have got a good memory - yes since then the inlet manifold has been modded ( in order to close the bonnet ) and a DTA engine management system fitted.

That is one rapid scooby btw - well done with your times

At the risk of sounding like a complete novice, i just wondered how you go about performing a conversion like this?

I mean there are obvious mechanical problems to overcome, but i always wonder about the electrics... how on earth do you sort all the electircs out? What looms do you use? How much of the clio electrics do you keep, and how much do you swap for TT ones?

Paul Daniels is a good friend of mine and he simply pulled out his "big magic wand " from his trousers and rubbed it on my car.


When i had him arrested for indecent exposure me and my mate then set about with the conversion. A lot of cutting and chopping of the chassis legs was required and we had to re-fabricate new engine mounts etc. Once the engine was in we simply wired the DTA engine management system up to the engine ( the system allows you to fit this engine in any car ) to get it up and running. We had to modify the driveshafts and the rads also. It took 3 weeks to do and runs perfect. A lot of credit has to go to my mate "paul jordan" 01254 207008 who is a VW / AUDI specialist. His MK1 scirroco Storm was on the front cover of retro magazine this month with the same conversion.

It is a very difficult conversion and i have abreviated it quite a lot to save web space !!!

If you were going to use the std ecu then you would be running to all sorts of problems with immobilisers etc, and would end up with a messy loom, but as said start with a DTA or similar and your laughing, the ecu most likely comes with its own loom and you just connect it up as per manual, making connections to Rev Counter and IgnSwitch from existing Loom.

My Scoob runs an Autronic SM2 and MSD Dis2 CDI, the std engine loom is unplugged under the bonnet and not even fitted, I could have made an adaptor to plug it into the std ecu connectors but i didnt fancy the **** subaru wiring.

The new ecu loom was used for all the engine side of things..

Harder things were getting the rev counter to work (now runs from the MSD as it outputs 1 pulse per 20degrees of crank rotation).

Ecu has links to existing car loom by the ecu for the following,

IGN SW
Fuel Pump Relay
Vechicle Speed Input (from gearbox sensor)

And thats about it.. maybe a few others...

Getting an engine running well with an ecu that doesnt even come with a base map is more difficult!

Well I'm in the process of building my sleeper.... By the end it should look like a nice Mini (1975) that's been repainted with the standard alloy and arches upgrade.

But being a Mini Minus its a fibreglass shell (target weight complete 470-500Kgs) with a z-cars kit to make it RWD and powered by an R1 inj engine and gearbox. It should be somewhere in the region of 300Bhp per tonne

Hoping to get it done by about July August time

Many years ago a mate of mine pulled out the Ford V4 from his 1966 Transit and put in a Rover V8 and auto box. Kept the original diff so it accelerated like a Lightning on reheat. Wouldn't do over 60, though!

Just an update on the orange 1.2 Clio. It got a 13 seconds dead @ 112 mph at the pod this weekend! Not bad considering he hasn`t got his diff yet. Should be nicely into the 12`s then I reckon...
