I'm sorry but if you have decided that you will break the law with illegally spaced number plates then it is far more likely that you will also break the law by not having an MOT, Insurance, safe tyres, dd etc.
Fair play to the police on this one.

I dont know why they just dont make the fine £300, people would think twice about doing it then. It gets on my nerves when people change O's to 8's or B's with the use of black screw caps, I mean, if its black under the screw, use the black cap, otherwise use the correct coloured one, its not rocket science.

thats completely fine... and i stand by that comment completely... police pulling over cars for a number plate thats slightly wrong is a WASTE of police time period. you cant deny that fact. There ARE better things they could be doing with their time

OR how about this viewpoint. YOU are stopping the police doing proper policing by wasting THEIR time by having illegal plates which they are duty bound to sort from time to time.
Anyway, this is an argument posted on SN a lot (why aren't police catching 'proper' criminals etc.) but are missing the whole picture. 'minor' crimes have to be looked at as well as the rest. Put it this way, how would you like it if your car got nicked or vandalised and the police didn't do anything about it because YOU wanted them to sort proper crimes out. Can't have them looking for your car or the ****** that smashed it up when there's murders and rapes going on. Anway, the police DO prioritise things and clearly spend more time and resources investigating murders and suchlike than they do sorting out minor stuff. If they ignored all 'minor' crimes (and you'd have to define 'minor') we'd soon have a state in anarchy.
Personally, I don't mind mis-placed plates AS LONG AS the assigned letters/numbers are clear. e.g. DAV1D (or DAV 1D) is OK but D11V1D with a screwcap between the two 1's to make it look like an A is NOT. a 13 to look like a B is NOT either. Italics and hard to read fonts are a no no too. Also leads to the police not finding your car when it get's nicked as they are looking for the wrong one. Your mum/dad/sister/etc. get's run over and is paralised for life. Witnesses couldn't read the number plate properly and as a result could only give a 'guess' as to the numbers/letters on the car. A normal plate would have lead to the police finding the driver, however they can't so driver gets away with it. Yeah, so it really is a victimless crime isn't it

Or maybe they were busy sorting out a murder/rape/assault etc. at the time. Can't really judge unless you know now can you?
Now I do agree there are some discrepancies in the priorities with some forces, however that's not what's being discussed here on SN. People are talking about the police completely ignoring the crimes that they want to commit.

Dropping litter could cause someone to swerve and hit a bump in the road which then could knock over a group of school kids all crossing the road at that point in time, which could cause some of their parents to commit suicide because they can't handle the stress of loosing their children... one of the parents could try to kill themselves by jumping in front of a train travelling at 100mph, which could then come off of the rails and crash into an aquaduct destroying a vital supply of water to a nuclear power station causing and nuclear explosion wiping out the whole of england.... Hardly a victimless crime is dropping litter....

because i have no faith in this country's judicial system and i believe that the police constantly are unperforming. the best way to make the figures look better is to attack the smaller crimes

fair enough on the fog lights, as it can be annoying and is unneccessary, however number plates are number plates, not an excuse for the police to waste loads of expense + time moaning about a bit of plastic just to earn a few quids for their force.
complete waste of time. fair enough you may think some people look pikey with iffy plates, so be it it's their life.

it has all been said before and the the police prob do get told what to do by their bosses, ie get more fines money in...
if they took some police away from the unneccessary revenue raising traffic section and placed them on the streets in the rough estates, towns, high streets YOU tell me which would be better...

Fecking hell, you lot really are a bunch of whining idiots, aren't you?
Illegally spaced plates are illegal. Fact. People who break the law can (and will) be prosecuted or punished. Fact.
All you idiots who complain the police should be 'catching real criminals' are talking cobblers - what you're basically saying is that some laws should be enforced, and some shouldn't. All well and good, except where do you draw the line?
Dropping litter may be seemingly trivial, but I think it's disgusting and people who do it should be penalised. If I can manage to put my rubbish in a bin, WTF can't everyone else?
Mis-spaced number plates could potentially stop a car being identified if involved in a crime. Might seem trivial, and most people with mis-spaced plates probably haven't done any other crime, but how do the police know unless they stop you and check? If they ignored all the cars, they might miss somebody who's intentionally made their plate hard-to-read.
Laws are there to be upheld. You can't pick and choose which ones to abide by or which ones should be policed. If you don't agree with the law, lobby your MP, or get elected. If the law is wrong enough, you'll get into power and can question the law. But if you can't be arsed to do any of that, don't complain.
I got done for doing 80mph on a motorway the other week (as posted here). Very annoying, but I know I was speeding (if only by a small amount) so unfortunately, I can't argue the toss. The rest of you should follow my lead concentrate your efforts into stuff which is a bit more important.
