You, with your hour's less sleep, rather than me with my extra hour
I'll be looking forward to the hour's less sleep. Means I'll have an extra hour on my bike/in the garden.

You don't actually gain an hour's daylight. For that you'd have to slow down the speed at which the earth rotates. All that happens is you lose an hour of daylight in the morning to gain an extra one in the evening.

I can't believe people still get this wrong.

Exactly. Because, after Sunday morning, when it would have been 7pm in the evening (i.e. dark) now it's only 6pm (i.e. light).

So remember, joking aside, that although the clocks are going what we would call "forwards" you need to move the hands backwards an hour to get that extra hour.

Just 'cos you're asleep doesn't mean that hour of daylight doesn't happen though. Sheesh - do you lot believe that if a tree falls down in the middle of the forest it makes no sound?

Hands won't be going forwards on my clocks. They'll be going sideways, in a rotational direction. Except for the clocks which don't have hands.

Do you mean that they will move rotationally, but instantaneously orthogonal to their long axis?

I, of course, meant "counterclockwise", i.e. contrary to their normal direction of rotation.

PS: I can't believe that people still think that if they move the clock hands "onwards" by an hour (i.e. the "wrong" way for next Sunday), they lose an hour's sleep. Seems logical to me: you go to bed at 11, and wake up at 7, so 8 hours sleep. Except if you move the hands "onwards" you're getting up at 8, so 9 hours sleep.
