just got rid of my 2.5 v6 vectra. bhp is 167 and torque about the same. Pretty quick near 3 figures, but below that - na. GSI's have more horsepower and torque, due to different camshafts from a 3.0. Its good enough for the police though?

To be honest, if you're going at 30, a V6 Vectra / CTR is going at 50+, and already in the right gear and on the gas - especially if you're in the wrong gear, waiting for turbo to spool up etc - no 300bhp Impreza is going to start reeling them in after a few seconds! You'd need to be well over 80mph before you start holding station, and by that time, your acceleration advantage is lessened. In the same way, if you in a 300bhp scoob were floored with a 20+ mph start on a 911 Turbo / F360 which was in the wrong gear, it'd take them a while to reel you in, although they're quicker than you are. To make up that sort of defecit will take time or MASSIVELY faster cars.

Interesting thread, a very good backup to events on my drive back from work earlier today.
Whilst travelling down an A road there was a 3.2 V6 Vectra saloon in front on me and a bus in front of him doing about 45/50mph. When the coast was clear I indicated and pulled out to ovetake (in 3rd)... as my nose was passing him he decides to pull out without checking or indicating leaving me no option but to throw on the anchors.
Standard protocol of flashing lights and tooting horn resulted from me (tosser!) and to add insult to injury when he did pull in past the bus he continued booting it as not to let me in (complete tosser) by this stage the shift light was blinking at me (doh) so went for 4th planted the loud pedal and he was a DISTANT sight on the rear view mirror.
Are we forgetting that all these comparisons are on STRAIGHT ROADS, any tosser can drive fast in a straight line.... esp a rep!!

I'm not doing that to the Octy. I am, however, sending it to Star Performance to get its ECU sorted

Can't have a scooby bashing thread like this floating down.
A 1.8 Vectra will out do a scoob from the lights. Not to mention a 3cyl corsa with incredibly short 1st gear, slaughters scoobs that does.

I've just been told that most cars are in fact faster than my Impreza. I regularly get wasted by Diesel Fabia's, Vectra's V6's (these are actually faster than an Enzo), MK1 Escorts, Sinclair C5's and Royal Mail vans.
It's such a shame that our cars are so slow, as the rest of the package is excellent

So that's why it keeps getting beaten by these diesel rep mobiles... NOT..!
It's is true however that you can be caught off boost if your a bit complacent (sp?).

You have to remember that most Vectras have the best performance enhancement known to man - a jacket hanging from the coathook
I used to be a Vectra owner. Oh dear. Its last trip was on the back of a flatbed to the local scrapyard after the oil pump packed up. 12 hours after I'd just spent £500 getting a blown head gasket replaced
As the old heap wasn't worth more than £700 there was no way I was going to throw good money after bad.
Not my best buy.

Come on people, we can't let this Scoob bashing thread linger. We all know this is a Scoob forum so let the bashing continue.
I'll start again, they're slow, can't handle, have ludicrous wings on them, fuel inefficient, cost too much run, and there's always a new model round the corner. Not forgetting that the latest diesels are faster, handle better, have better residuals.
Come on people, don't let us Scoob owners feel like we should enjoy our cars, slag them off and tell us what mistakes we made with out buying choice. Let's not forget that we should have bought an Evo or Skyline instead.
