How many people here have their water rates & sewerage included in their council tax? Some people do, some don't, which can make the figures look over- or under-inflated.
Our figure doesn't include sewerage or water rates - but that's 'cos we get our water from a natural spring, and have a septic tank.

Where is the incentive to work harder and earn more?
My council tax has gone up by 40% and what really gets me is the council saying its only 5.6% because they are ignoring the rebanding.
The bands are based on property value on 1/4/03. If the council can find someone who is willing to pay that much for my house they can have it (and prices in my area have not fallen)
I can guarantee my salary won't rise by 40% this year and I'll bet all my council tax that the holes in the road outside wont get any more than a quick spray of tarmac from the back of a lorry which will last all of 5 minutes.
If I buy food in Tescos I pay the same as everyone else whatever their salary. Why should council services be any different. I'm already penalised by the tax and National Insurance system for bothering to get off my *** and get a decent job.
Rant over.

My council tax has gone up 5% which is double the alleged rate of inflation IIRC, and what has this gotten me?
Still pot holes in my road, getting worse,
speed bumps on my majour route. I swear, one day I'm going to get an impresa-style bodyshell welded onto an ambulance chassis, **** you speed bumps.
Police still dont do anything useful.
I can't comment of fire, ambulance or education as I've not used these services.
I wish tax could be democritised so that, for example, only the people who wanted the speed bumps paid for them.

What planet do you live on?
Fact is, if your household income is £60k+, then £1600 is ****-all (£130/month out of £2.5k+ net). In terms of income percentages, I'd rather have a £2k council tax bill and earn £60k than have a £700 council tax bill and earn £25k.....

Your point about value for money of council tax is definitely valid, but it's totally unrelated to your earnings. Whether your council tax bill is £2k or £200, and whether your earnings are £10k or £100k, the fact is that most places have ****e services given the amount we pay.....
