Tiggs, that's why it's in inverted commas. It's about perception. What you see as acceptable and necessary policing is seen as victimisation by others. I didn't want to express an opinion myself but truth be told I believe that a £10,000 Impreza with an iffy plate spacing or certain chavness is far more likely to be insured and tested than a understated piece of **** rusty cavalier driven by a middle aged nobody.

People who spend a lot of money customising their vehicles tend to want their investment covered in the case of a theft or accident.

big assumption. i bet half the chaved up **** heaps driven by cap wearing muppets are "uninsured" even if they are insured because of the bolt on bull**** they have glued to their heaps.

Come on guys, stick to the topic, a flamer kit and some dodgy spacing is hardly drink driving or a prison sentence is it.

The point is there are too many police resources going on this kind of **** when there is a steady increase in 'real' crime and an increasing number of the population do no feel safe in their homes, let alone on the streets.

That would just be too logical.... most people dont seem to understand that

You'd be surprised

This is bristol we are talking about

To be fair I think that's a pretty sweeping statement that people with flamer kits are illegal, speeding paedophiles circling schools out of control

I agree, these things should perhaps be community policed. Personally if I read on here that someone's breaking the law in a petty manner, I'll do my best to make them look the prat they are. It's a small contribution but saves police resources having to do the same.

'Yob culture' blamed for rating

Steve Pilkington

Mr Pilkington accepts there is still work to be done. Avon and Somerset Police's chief constable has blamed "yob culture" for a poor performance in a new report.

The force was told it needs to better tackle high volume crimes such as violence, and burglaries.

Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary did however award top marks for road policing, public reassurance and strategic management.

I'm reasured then

Guns, drugs and a spiralling murder rate

Alan Travis
Tuesday March 15, 2005
The Guardian

It is almost two years since Steve Green's Nottinghamshire police force was officially branded the worst in Britain.

In May 2003 the Nottinghamshire force became the first in more than a decade to fail the Home Office's test to see if the police are effective and efficient.

Her Majesty's Inspector of Constabulary said in a report: "If you lived, worked or visited Nottinghamshire, you were more likely to have a crime committed against you than anywhere in the country."

David Blakey, the inspector who wrote the report, issued Mr Green with a formal warning that his force could be the first to be taken over and run by Home Office appointees.

The official verdict said Nottinghamshire was the victim of a long history of poor performance, a drastic reform programme and a sudden rise in gun crime and murder.

But Mr Green has many local critics including John Clarke, the chairman of his police authority, who yesterday questioned whether his chief constable had taken the most appropriate action.

"The question has to be whether the resources are being properly used," he said.

No. It makes you responsible for wasting police time on petty matters, leaving little old ladies vulnerable to burglary and violence. It also shows you to be the type of person that believes that flames from your exhaust are in some way clever or impressive. I'd rather see them coming out of your ****, far more entertaining and with an added element of risk.

does it ever occur to anyone, that something like flames out of an exhaust is so pathetically insignificant when you compare it to a universe larger than we can even comprehend.... and that seriously its not even worth arguing about....

its not each persons responsibility to make sure the police dont waste time spending it with them about flames and plates, as if they hadnt pulled him they would only be sittin at the side of the road eating donuts as they are TRAFFIC police. wasted resource. pull em out of there and train them to solve real crimes F F S !!!

You'll notice, somewhere along the line, that I didn't mention a "chaved up **** heap" in my post. I was talking about people, like many who post on here, who spend outrageous (in my opinion) amounts of money customising already expensive cars. These people are far more likely to spend money insuring their pride and joy (whatever your opinion on their taste may be) than a 20 something bloke, earning minimum wage, driving a 1992 Toyota Corolla, passing by at the speed limit, unnoticed by the police and Gatsos. Unnoticed until his unchecked brakes fail that is.

You get what I'm saying yet? I'm not saying it's right or wrong to pull people for dodgy numberplates or flamer kits. I'm just saying that the police, specifically the traffic police, 'seem' to take on the easy targets every time. Personally I don't suffer with it myself. I haven't been unnecessarily pulled in the last 15 years, but I know people who have and I'd imagine it's frustrating to have your time wasted by the same force who are saying their under resourced and understaffed.
