im shocked this debate is still going on!
and i believe most people appear to be angry at the police if they get pulled over is usually cos the police have a track record for being very arrigant and pedantic

Let the traffic wardens deal with minor motoring offences and the police deal with real crime issues.
Hardly rocket science is it?

Oh dear
I have just read through this thread...what can I say?
You got pulled for having a flamer kit. Cant fault the Police for that surely? Oh yeah they should be catching real crims? But they would be traffic Cops and so would be doing the job description?
I really dont see the logic of moaning about it!! If they were on there way to catch REAL scumbags they wouldnt have pulled you up? no?
I can only assume that I am getting old and missing the point.

I think some people are missing the point here, he was stopped by a camera van, not your local plod doing his rounds. The issue here is plod in camera vans could be deployed to work on more serious issues than just sitting on grass verges or bridges revenue raising. If he had been pulled by response plod no complaints, they were on duties that involved responding to serious crime.
The argument is that with so many police forces stating they are massively under staffed and cant cope with serious crime, why then are they still using head count on such duties as camera van deployment? Whats more important to the public? A policeman sitting in a camera van taking pics all day long or that same policeman being put on duties that involve catching serious criminals?
Oh and being in a camera van he was unlikley to be stopping cars routinely so not much chance of him catching any real criminals, only taking pics of fast cars.

I find it hard to believe anyone can't at least agree to this on principle. Sure there are arguments for and against but in essence this sums up most people's feelings.

the point is
someone quoted,"he broke the law" so what!! I bet every person on this forum breaks the law everyday driving over 30 in a 30 zone, and who the hell drives at 70 on a motorway,, the point is motorists are an easy target to catch and give the goverment billions in extra revenue each year

The point is here, that the law is the law and if you break it you pay the penalty. Yes there are not enough officers for reactive policing but if you had been stopped by a beat bobby patrolling his patch would you have the same opinion? The police are there to deal with crime and the prevention of same. Whether that be motoring offences or serious crime. If someone nicked your car and the police saw it and didnt pursue and arrest them would you say 'well done for not doing anything because i know you were busy dealing with real crime'? I think not. Contrary to popular belief the police dont stop law abiding citizens for no good reason and make something up to charge them with. I am not saying that we all dont break the law from time to time but if you behave like a pr**k you will get treated like one if you get stopped, simple as that. Have you never heard of the attitude test?

Am not saying you had an attitude it was just a generalisation. A lot of people get arsey because they know they have broken the law and are pi**ed off at getting caught. My advice is eat humble pie and you might just get away with a warning, regardless of the attitude of the bobby. He/she has a job to do(as directed by the government) and they have to do it to maintain some modicum of control in this country. If the government want them to stop motorists for minor offences then thats what they have to do. If you or anyone else doesn't like it then lobby the government. A lot of people are anti-police these days but they do a good job and are always there if you need them desperately. Thats just my opinion

the only exception is that on a motorway I use the GPs system to measure speed which actually shows as 76mph on the tacho.
Dont lump me in with your pathetic inablility to follow rules, also, because many break a law, doesnt make it a bad law or a law that you dont really need to stick to.
its a law of this land, you break it, you suffer the consequences.
