Long live the Golf TDI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Few, I thought you'd actually measured it for a minute The only real way to measure fuel consumption is to do a brim to brim. The trip computer can be 'driven around' to get some spectacular figures on short trips or 'snap shots' of trips.
I think you'll find that the real MPG is a lot lower for whole tank fulls, where you do town stuff, short trips and the country blasts. I bet you'll get anywhere between 37 and 45 normally. I fell for the amazing turbo diesel mith and found out how you really had to drive to get good figures - yawn. The benefit from modern TDi's is that 35MPG + is a reality on most tank fulls and if you're careful then 40-45MPG is within reach.

For the record the fuel computers are pretty accurate, I find that they are at worst 2mpg optimistic when compared with a "brim to brim" calc...
Still miss the Scoob (obviously!), but wouldnt go back.. Worst mpg ive averaged on a trip was 35mpg, while playing with a new-age impreza, and yes, there were "twisties" involved , cant have been wet enough!!
Worst thing about these posts is that they are aleays about MPG, when to me thats just a bonus.. They are a good, well built, high torque car, and very easy to drive quickly without knowing you are doing it.. The PD150 inherits better suspension which helps too...

Full tank I usually get around 450-500 miles, which is around £43.. But a lot of people get 550 miles +, or so they tell me! Im prob not the best advert for mpg though..
Getting it "Revo'd" in the next couple of weeks, oh and an account with Kwik-Fit......

sorry m8 but you are doubting the power of a chipped golf a chipped new shape golf gt tdi has ludicrous torque and amazing overtaking potential
torque in the same leagues as an m3 actually

I know what i see on the trip computer, and it has seen 65 MPG on a few occasions, and not the one that takes a reading every few seconds.
Obviously on an urban mix the mgp will be lower, but as I bought it for motorways, Im not that concerned.

Scoobynutter, reset the fuel computer when you fill up and let us know what it says before you refill when it's very empty. On my old GSI cav I could reset the fule comp on cruise and ten minutes later I could get 50MPG out of the car so excuse me If I find your method a little flawed

Before Id have less mileage before i hit halfway on the guage than I do now, nothing flawed with that. ill let you know when Ive done a full tank, but with the high mpg it might be a while

we will agree to disagree on this one I don't think the torque is irrelevant,30-70 in a standard GT TDi would take it past several cars, but chip it with BP Ultimate Diesel and Millers Diesel plus and it will fly past

Just to add my 2p's worth.
I have a GTi 150bhp Golf, which has been re-mapped (well custom mapped on the road) to 195bhp/285lbft.
I always reset the computer every tankful and I manage at least 45-47mpg. That is based on decentish journeys (average of 30 miles each way on mainly trunk roads to work) giving it death makes it fall within the above figures across a tankful. Easing off (but still giving it a far bit) returns me 48-51mpg.
Excellent car as the daily slogger.
But..... if I want some real fun I have to get the Scoob out!

Are people actually working the mpg out or using the computer?? After a remap, the average mpg is VERY optimistic - like anything up to 15% optimistic...
We've got a Fabia vRS which is lighter than a GT TDI and has the MK4 Golf engine - it does a (real) 50 mpg on a run (showing 55 - 58mpg on trip).
Don't know were some of you get these figures from...
Fill tank, reset trip, DRIVE, refill tank and take note of reading on trip...

Over 100,000 miles the fuel computer in my Golf has been accurate to within about 1-2mpg over a full tank of fuel. I always reset the computer every time i fill up and always fill the tank to the top and work out the actual consumption myself to compare to the computer figure

Jamesemt,
I travel over 500miles per week and I return between 470-510 miles (dependant on driving) just prior to the fuel light coming on.... do the maths, as you will see it is not that far out!
Regards,
Shaun.
