Did you lot not know that Scoobies in the north of England are faster off the mark than Scoobies from south of Manchester ?
We are also faster at gear changes and better at braking and cornering.

Interesting post. I like a relaxed driving miss daisy start, let's the opposition get excited for 1/2 a second, then floor it when the clutch is fully engaged and wait for the boost to hit. Easy on the mechanics and effective but not as quick as a max torque slippy the wonder clutch takeoff. ouch.

Although I do have traction control and 300 bhp at the rear wheels

G_Sleigh_Sti Drop me a PM and I'll show you how to do it. Seeing and doing is alot better than reading and I'll show you a way that doesn't make you look a fanny at the lights and won't damage your clutch or drive train. There is only one way and I had to be taught it

So when you first started driving powerful cars are you trying to say that you instantly knew how to drive them and that you were an expert? If so you’re lying. We all start off with a car with certain power, then we get used to how to drive that car and build up learning each time.
Its like playing a sport when you first start there is no way you know everything about the game, the rules and how to play effectively. Along with driving there is no way when jumping into a car that you know how it handles, how to launch it and how to drive it to the best.
Everything in life takes practice and therefore my post stands. By asking for advice by people that have been in my situation is the only way forward. You dont try and ski without speaking to a skiing instructor now do you.

my RA was ballistic off the lights, a seat or anything of that ilk wouldn't stand a chance. Get a decent AP clutch and sod all this slipping in bollox, 5k revs and drop it....simple and DEVASTATING!!!!!

To use your sport analogy its like taking a penalty when you've never played football before, but this time the net is 1 mile wide by 2 miles high, there's no keeper its downhill, the winds behind you and there's those lanes you get for kids at bowling alleys...

As far as launching an Impreza, mine was my first turbo and first awd and I found it easy to get blistering starts. Infact it was the desciding factor in buying one..! If you really believe Saxo's etc... are faster then why don't you sell the scoob, save £20k in the bank and buy a Saxo..?
BTW some of the people your slating are very knowledgeable. They like me are getting very pissed off with all the scooby bashing that goes on, on this forum lately. Now you come along slating the one thing that so far hasn't been in question, the scoobs ability off the line. Look around you, you're on a subaru forum.

Jasoniun - I do have a saxo, 1 of the most heavily featured in the country and therefore i know how fast they can be and what low down torque they have. Off the light because all there power is low down they do pull well.... Anyway thats not the point.
I do apologise for the way i asked the question as it obviously offended some people (my god its a car) But suprisingly i do like my Impreza STi and do not intend to impreza bash. I am looking for a place to gain some knowledge and advice about them.
I can clearly see from the mentality of some people on here that its probably best to stay on the other scooby forums around.
Those who offered advise and help, I do thank you and in no one intended to offend with my comments about the minority who get aggressive and show you up.

I think some UK owners might be a little surprised what will keep up with it at the lights.... Im not insulting the car, I used to have one and it was great - but 215 or so bhp is nothing in todays terms... I had a saxo keep up, was a bit gutted but realised its a small fast crap French car (no offence - but that is a true statement)
