I hope he doesn't suffer too.

I was a guest 'round his pad - tis very nice. Hopefully the next Pope will liquidate all that, and distribute those billions among the poor, weak and needy. And stop tapping old ladies for a weekly $20 heaven entry fee. You know - good Christian stuff, sort of like Jesus would do.

I was a Catholic, I turned away from the faith for many reasons and am not too keen on returning to it.

I have utmost respect for those who care about religion, I have utmost respect for those who aren't religious, I have respect for people who just don't give a toss about it either way.

I have little respect for those who insist on forcing their views down other people's throats or who believe that just because one person follows one religion that isn't what that person follows then they must be wrong.

Regardless of who he is, I hope the Pope dies with some dignity.

Anyone else getting fed up of 'Pope Watch 2005' on the news at the moment? I'm surprised they've not got a real time heart monitor on screen at the moment so we know the very second he dies.

Just let him die in peace and dignity and stop all the ghoulish media circus. Regardless of what you believe an old man deserves to be able to die without the whole world checking his pulse every 10 seconds.

Whatever your beliefs, religious or not, Catholic or not, I really think that some of the remarks which have been made on this thread are not only beyond the realms of decency but totally unnecessary. What are you trying to prove anyway, how clever you are to criticise a great man in his final hours and also one of the finest Popes ever.

You obviously don't have to be a Catholic or even a Christian to see the qualities of such a person. Why is the whole world so concerned now that he is so gravely ill? Why has the whole world put so much store on what he has said in the past?

If you don't hold with religious beliefs, thats up to you, you are not likely to be castigated for that by those who do. You are entitled to follow your own conscience. How often have you had people trying to force you to believe otherwise?

Surely it is not so difficult then to resist being unpleasant towards those who believe in religion and also to avoid making such offensive comments about a great man in the final moments of his life who has achieved so much good in his time from the **** occupation of his country, the Communist atheist rule, and then his leadership of the Catholic Church..

There is no place for "smart-****" cheapo jokes at his expense at such a time.

Les

Well, considering this thread was started as a comment on the hipprocracy of the Catholic church and Christianity in general, it is a shame to see it has descended into knocking someone who, whilst not everyone's cup of tea, is certainly not an evil person and not deserving of some of the comments.

One person beliefs may not be anothers, but this is outrageous!!

This person has friends and family, some of you should be ashamed of yourselves.
