The hike in prices isn't really about lack of supply right now though - there's plenty of oil for everyone at the moment, and the hike in crude futures is pure hype & speculation by those in the futures markets....

ie, every Wednesday, figures are published in the US which detail the change in levels of the US crude stocks, and heating oil stocks etc....just needs a small surprise in there for futures to get volatile and jump around.
These figures don't reflect global supply issues - they often reflect the fact that a single US rig in the Gulf of Mexico had a small production problem etc. Hardly a global issue.

Add in some analyst from Goldman Sachs speculating on prices of futures, and the markets react. Remember, the analyst (yes, this single person) hasn't changed the current levels of crude stockpiles, nor altered production from OPEC or anyone else.

It's the few hundred people sitting in that trading pit in New York that are living these hyped prices. Making money off it all....

The fact is that a tiny percentage of the world's population using a disproportionately large amount of the world's resources is a problem of sorts , but when the rest of the world tries to play catch up in the consumption game, the sh*t starts to hit the fan.

Great for the future?
Ours isn't.

But it is absolutely heaving with Chinese students and on the surface they are the most diligent and eager to learn. Over the Easter break the place was still filled with them while the locals were off p!ssing it up. They're polite and, occasional language difficulties aside, very easy to work with. They're the first here in the mornings and the last to leave at night so I say they deserve to be progressing as a nation. From the microcosmic view I get I'd say they're putting the effort in.

It's not just the "elite's" carp at stake. If you have a pension scheme (like the majority on SN) then no doubt you care how its investments do. And unless you've chosen a scheme that only invests in UK companies that are solely located in the UK, chances are that YOUR pension relies on its "massive holdings" in companies like GE, GM etc for the "fat dividends" to provide for YOU when YOU retire.

I assume this is a reference to Mark Thatcher's attempt to 'sort out' Equatorial Guinea ! Still, the second largest world oil reserve, Iraq, has been 'sorted out', so there's just Russia to sort next !

Filled up with ultimate diesel today - 95.9p/litre

Diesel and SUL will surely reach 100p/litre before too long. And then we have that 3p/litre TAX increase added in September thanks to Gordon Brown
