Actual gearbox is strong though.
Oil change every 4k(6k book i think) , done this with any car I have owned so not a short interval for me.
Another known problem is they tend to tap on startup and sometimes when hot if a oil change is needed, perfectly normal and you can buy uprated lifters to cure the problem if it annoys.
This problem and the syncros are really the only common things I can think of, dont think I have heard of anyone on MLR blow a diff/gearbox.

My next upgrade when theres a set finally finished from some of the dealers on MLR.
on the brighter side of things you have a front mount and oil cooler as standard and obviously they run the 4G63 so a endless amount of tuning options.
I also like the steering as its very positive with very few turns needed from lock to lock. I actually noticed in my friends Type r he was having to work the steering wheel alot, far quicker rack on the Evo.
The seats are fantastic and give better support than pretty much any other seat I have sat in![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
Like I have said before though there not great motoway cars, cruising at 90 would be about 4.5k
as you can probally guess I am very pleased with my choice of car, with friends pulsars eating gearboxes every 5 mins and 2 of my friends losing engines in there scoobs i'm very pleased of how she has stayed in one piece.

The 2 and 3, CE9a's are wort nearly twice as much at auction although they dont sell for much more here. The three is the prettiest but if it were my money Id be buying an Evolution 1. Of course; a CM5a new shape Lancer GSR 1800cc Turbo 4WD would be a way better bet for very little more.

We can talk about it if you like; usually I import vehicles to sell rather than to order though. The problem is that it takes a reasonable amount of trust and thats seldom found in used car deals.
There was a beautiful (and very rare) Grade 4 Evo 1 going through today too; todays about over in Japan now though. I nearly bid on it even though I dont have anywhere to park it... Still, there are up to 40,000 cars auctioned every day.

i sold my evo iv 96 and got a import sti 96
the evo did not feel as raw to drive as the scooby and the evo running costs are a nightmare!!
i feel a lot happier in the scoob pulls a lot harder through the lower rev range
but would not keep up with the evo in the higher rev range
must admit though the evo is a stunning car and i would have another one but still enjoying the scoob at the mo

I have watched that vid before and If I remember rightly the Evo 1 & 2 suffered really badly from understeer but in the 3 onwards they got it right.
Anyone else remember this vid?
Sadly my Subaru is being sold tomorrow - and driving home for the last time tonight and listening to that flat 4 burble which turns into a roar as the turbo spools up is unbeatable. I swear it's an emotional experience.
I went in a 330hp Evo 6 Sprint not too long ago and it was damn fast. But didn't have the soul of the Impreza. Sorry.

4 onwards they have the ayc etc so pretty much gets rid of any understeer.
How ever I would say standard for standard my Evo3 wasnt as bad as my friends last year classic STI when it comes to that problem

I have seen this vid and the Evo 1 did REAL bad, but then it was the only sandard car there bar a uprated set of HT leads.The others cars(Evo's + scoobys) where far better tuned.
I have a video of properly done Evo 1-3's going round Tsukuba and the quickest one on the day ran a 1min 2 sec lap.Which if anyone watches best motoring will know is a good lap

One thing that doesnt help much is the 15" standard rims which run on 205/60's. Makes for interesting understeer/oversteer moments
