I have for about 15 days an oil cooler with thermostat on my car (97 GC8) after high readings of oil temps. I am using the same oil (motul 15/50) as before the oil cooler, the oil temps now are from 90 to 100 but i have low oil pressure (27 psi on idle and 75 psi on 5000rpm).

It seems that most people think 110 degrees-ish is max desirable oil temp, as measured over #3 pot. What is this likely to equate to around the turbo (and some people are fitting turbo heat blankets )? Is it still running and lubing free and unmolested, or turning to carbon?

I would guess that local oil temps could rise directly with EGT, and that heads and turbos could see alarming preaks maybe exceeding 150 degs C. These temps would serously degrade even the best oil.

Anybody like to take a punt at what the hi-lo range of significant oil temperatures is within a Scooby motor at full song?

Richard.
