If the army doesn't appeal, there may be an RAAF or RNR base near you, where there is less of an emphasis on physical fitness (still can't be a lard **** though ).
PS 84of300: At the risk of making myself sound like a geek, I'd assumed you were a fan of Star Trek Voyager, more specifically, 7of9.

"Join the army, meet interesting people. And kill them".
I'd say buy a dog, it's worked for us here, but that's only if you have someone always at home to look after it, I'd never recommend it for a working bachelor.

College evening classes? Have a look round and see which course has the fittest birds and enrole!
I moved from Oxford to Haverfordwest and knew nobody. Went to college on a day release course and met a few people. Worked in a popular bar and met current misses there.
I'd just go out as well. Look odd on your own but once in a club and dancing no one knows if your billy no mates aor just the only one in your posse who can still stand

Youll never leave.
Make some friends at the Butchers.
I have found the best way to make friends, is to make enemies first..

Not that it matters now, but the question was google proof because the real ajm would have of course pointed out that the name Serrasalmus notatus is outdated as scientists now recognise them as Pygocentrus caribe!

Cheers peeps, lots to think about.
Evening classes is certainly on my list and also some sort of sport. none of the pubs here I particuarly like to drink in, so doubt I'd like working in them, but, a job of some description in the area could work.
As for the question why did I move here, well, I hated renting and this was the area closest to work and friends that I could afford. As it turns out the 2 people I knew here got divorced and went their seperate ways and I honestly didn't think my other friends wouldn't visit. For some of them it's been nearly a year coming here, yet I see them most weeks going over to see them. Basicaly I make the effort they don't. Changed jobs (closer) but as it turns out most of the others live 20 miles past work in the opposite direction!

Thats a bugger! Your real friends will visit you where ever you live. There must be some kind of evening class you could partake in. Find a new hobby. Or last resort buy a dog or maybe just borrow one to take for walks in the park.
