do P1's blow their engines?

I still think it is wierd that no one is 100% on why these things happen. Out of all the tuners on here dave from API seems to have the best explanation but from what i can remember a while ago there was a few tuners/re-builders on the same thread all discussing the big end problem but none agreeing the same things. Are we no closer to finding the problem yet?

Lots of people talking shop is all .........
Not many have a real clue .........
My take on it is simple - modify your car and you ask for failure, leave it as standard and service it properly every 6 months and many miles and many years are offered

Leave as standard and suffer the years of solid reliable honest service - modify and pick up the pistons and con-rods!

Afternoon all,
I have had P1 number 911 fo the last 18 months or so now, bought it as a completely standard one owner car with 30k on the clock and FSSH.
Its got to be said, I am starting to get a bit paranoid about it, you do hear a few horror stories about them!
Since Ive had the car Ive done about 5,000 miles, in which time the only thing I have had to buy is a new MAF sensor (which was found to be faulty after an ECU reset on a service)
Due to me being paranoid now, I have installed a SECS monitor, a knocklink, a turbo timer and a set of gauges. I have also had a remap (for safety) as I have a hi flow cat on it and an exhaust.
I just make sure:
1) The car is always run on Optimax
2) Car never goes below 1/4 of a tank
3) I use 2ml of NF octane booster to ever litre of fuel
4) Car is warmed up and cooled down correctly
5) I keep an eye on the knocklink
6) I keep an eye on peak boost (cos of the blocked boost solenoid issue)
7) Gets serviced every 6 months (usually 2,000 miles)
Other than the above there isnt a lot you can do really, if its gonna go with the above its gonna go anyway! To be honest the above would be a major headache to most people but as I do consider myself an enthusiast and I love the car, the above isnt an issue. A car that I didnt have to do anything with would be nice but also a bit boring!
I think if you like a car, you like a car. Doesnt matter what anyone says you will make your own mind up! If you are prepared for the above then you will love the P1!
Get over to www.p1woc.co.uk there is a register on there for the P1's that have had to have rebuilds! Not as many as you'd think and there are a couple approaching the 100k mark with no problems!
Cheers guys
