Currently looking at either a GT2, TTx50 or even possibly another RS.

911's are a different league. There's not a car on the planet that can do what a 911 can.

GT3 RS to 550 does'nt really make sense unless you really wanted a GT. Surely you should compare the RS to a 360 Stradale and then say which is better

Hi,

Wasn't at all comparing them mate - chalk and cheese. My point was to reflect dissapointment at a Ferrari and express my wish to return to Stuttgart stables.

I guess I must have just had a bad one Had a 1998 C2 back in 2001, full GT3 aerokit, turbo wheels, looked the elephants danglies. In the 9000 miles I owned it, it broke down on me twice (M1 both times ), nothing worse than being at the side of the motorway in a prestige car broken down Oil service was a reasonable £105 inc VAT not bad for a main dealer, it did two sets of rear tyres in that time at £500 a pair and when I came to sell it after it was just serviced it needed £3.5K worth of work, paint chips (understandable), new discs all round, oil leak on engine (apparently not fixed at dealer as its not part of the service ) and to be fair I think the prices plummited whilst I owned it so i lost loads of money

Good points, that glorious flat 6 howl behind you is just awesome Fuel consumption wasnt bad either and the insurance was cheaper than my STi 5 that I'd just sold.

Would I have another? probably not, unless I could ever afford to have a Turbo

Sorry if I'm hijacking thread!!
The TT is a much more everyday car, thats why it scored for me over the GT3
I think the Mk1 GT3 is fast becomming an icon compared to the Mk2. A lot of people rate the Mk1 over the Mk2 as a better drivers car, hence prices are holding. EVO prefer the Mk1.
None of my 996's were Tiptronic, but my Boxster S before was, wouldn't have another unless I spend all my time in central London. I really missed changing gear ! Tip also robs a little performance. Funnily enough a lot of Turbo's are sold in Tip.

Hi Cem.
I've seen your posts over the years and so know you have owned some very interesting cars. My point is that you were disappointed with the Ferarri because its not the 'right' ferarri for you. For someone who has had Evos, Skylines, GT3 RSs a 550 just does'nt fit.
Whats interesting to me is whether you would have been just as underwhelmed and wanting to return to Porsche if you had owned a 360 Challenge rather than a 550.

Cheers, Deep

Hey Deep,

I think you're absolutely right. The 550 was a bad choice for me, but a good experience overall. It's a stunningly beautiful car and for the money, you get an awful lot of history and engineering. But it's not for me which is why I want to get back to something more exciting. Would only dream of a CS right now, but the price is way out of my league.

I really miss the RS, I'm very angry at myself for thinking the grass is greener - it quite simply wasn't. And going out in my friends Ruf GT2 - well, that car is simply astonishing.

My Dad has a 996 C4 Cab which I've had the pleasure of driving quite a bit. I would agree that the build quality is a little worse than you would expect but servicing has been reasonable for him.. Although he is pally with the OPC owner near him.

Been following this thread with interest / jealousy. I'm on the lookout for a "fun" 2nd car and an early 996 would be my ideal. Sadly my budget is £20K tops (unless I shelve the idea until the end of the year) so I'm looking at a used Boxster/Z4/Cooper S Works or the current fave a new Golf GTI (my sensible head says the back seats will come in handy on occasion).

Do let us know how you get on. Would be very interested to see what you can get for £25K.
