I'm sorry, not that it should matter, but anybody with less than a Spec C would not see which way a CSL went, at any speeds. Quoting magazine figures does not give a true picture. EVO tested two CSL's on separate occasions, one day they got 62 in 5.2, another day saw 4.5!

SMG is fantasic IMHO, you just need a couple of weeks for it to fully kick in. Check out launch control too. Sun is starting to shine again may be time to put the cups back on!

i know my car was kicking out 350bhp when i had a blast with one at santa pod,i beat the car by a clear second but the csl was starting to pick up pace rather rapidly at this point and i think if it had gone beyond 1/4 mile ,it would have humped me!

You get gt3 performance....cheap i'd say
Whats the MPG stats on that ? similar to the scoob I guess!
Like thats important
even though i beat one up the strip at santa pod.twice
...wow! hold the front page, scoobs are quicker than CSL's!

......looks like I joined this one at just the right time.

Amazed that somebody took a CSL on a dragstrip day. Must be a clueless lottery winner type like that bloke that wears all that jewellery and sovereigns putting his middle finger up to the camera.

What was the termainal speeds of both cars? I wouldn't be suprised if you beat the CSL over the line with 350bhp 4wd launch but i'd reckon the CSL would have had the higher terminal speed. If not at least a better 30metres to 400metres time.

It would be interesting to know if the CSL used launch control aswell as i believe it makes a difference.

As i said it doesn't matter, whoever coined the fraise its not how fast you go but how you go fast needs an OBE at least

sorry bud ,cant remember the terminal speeds,it was a while ago.but when we raced the second time the csl had real trouble launching,i think the driver was trying to hard!must have been looking at just over 100mph at which point it seemed to me the csl was really starting to motor.

No worries! What car do you drive then, apologies for asuming it was a Mistsubaru....

if you have ever seen clarkson's Hot Metal DVD you will understand what i mean when i say that the M3 is notorious for bogging down from a standstill

LMAO @ this thread. As a package the CSL is awesome. As has been said, GT3 for less money, and more practical. Breath taking perforamance and balance, but can get flustered when things are running close to the edge (on a track), but i am confident this is the FR configeration money can buy !

Any guesses on the best MR RR and AWD !?!?

I think you have to look at the CSL as a pure drivers car. In standard forum the CSL is a more capable car than the Subaru. I take the Nurburgring as my casing point, as its what I know. I have follwed a couple of well driven CSL's in my MY03STi with high (ish) power and im constantly impressed at how well the CSL turns in on corners where my scoob is understeering wildly. They look so damned planted it drives me mad. Pulling out of corners my scoob can sit behind (slipstreaming) up untill about 90-100 where the CSL will pull a length or two. They really are a superb car and something which is on my must have list, along with the 964RS, another massively capable car even if its 13 years old.
I have no doubt that I would be quicker round a circuit in a CSL then in my scoob.

Sorry but if people are only interested in 0-60 or santa pod times then they shouldnt be allowed to buy what I call ''drivers cars'' because they just wont 'get it' anyway.

The other BMW comments also show people's ignorance IMHO. Its like saying Ford build crap cars so no matter what they bring out I wouldnt buy it. Utter toilet

It's good to read a thread like this where people are actually talking about cars and their capabilities. SN has become a bit tame on the old debaits recently. It's what I visit for!

Not sure I agree with that. If compared to a Subaru then yes, if compared to a 911, then no.

Ok, please don't shout at me, but what are they like to drive around town? I'm presuming not much different to the M3 but for harder suspension and a bit more noise? Dare I say almost practical?

the bit where i said it gets flustered is just from what i have seen on a vid. Compared to an NSX it looks like a barge, but as i said it is relative, and it is still the best Front engined Rear wheel drive car in it's class.

I've literally just watched it going around the ring, and I didn't see much flustering apart from idiot other drivers trying (not) to get out of the way

Hopefully you got that vid from Dave and mines site www.northloop.co.uk

Mind you there is also a video of me hounding one in my 130bhp french clutter around combe well i was trying to hound it.

I dont think you can compare the CSL with an NSX. Quite unfair.

Totally agree. The CSL is the best FR car. This means IMO there is nothing better, unless you start on other layouts.

Gary - what site is that again?

Yeah I checked out the coombe one too, my local track. You did a good job of keeping up (in the traffic )

The little 205 does go remarkably well tho.

Just incase you didnt catch it the first time it was www.northloop.co.uk I'm glad webby has a sense of humour and doesn't mind me doing this

My old french clutter does ok for itself. Quite suprising when you realise how old the design is.

My best experience with a CSL on the 'ring' was in the scoob where I had a great 3/4 lap with a brit CSL. The guy has done as many laps as me and is a spirited driver. He started out infront and I could hang on behind then he let me pass and tried to hang on behind which he did. The most suprising thing about this guy's driving ability is that he only has one arm !!! Now that is keen............I will never again use the saying I could do that with one arm tied behind my back

I think this is the fella.take a bow sir

Very practical IMHO. I think you could live with one day to day as an only car. Throttle response is much less aggressive with sport off (but who in the right mind would do that with tall buildings to echo that inductiion off) and just slide it into one of the slower gearchange modes like S3 or better yet A3. Susp. is on the firm side but not overly so, although my wife hates it! my only serious reservation is the dredded M3 "kangarooing" when cold and grumpy sometimes. Makes you look a twit but just change up and it goes
