Bye bye STi, hello M3 CSL

Well the CSL is my only car! So I'm going to have to learn to live with its impracticalities, but so far it's been fine - it cruises around in 5th at 30 mph. The ride is on the hard side, but coming from an Impreza it's less jittery and you don't get that "bounce" on the m/way. Speed humps need to be taken with some care - the ride height is pretty low. Otherwise my only criticism is that with the clutchless gear change there's no way of holding the car on inclines (parking, small hill starts etc...) apart from left foot braking or using the hand-brake, which takes some getting used to.

Shock, horror. Hate to break it to some people on this thread, but yes, there are cars that are better than an Impreza. The CSL is one of them - it's in a different league. Some of the comments on here are making me laugh. If you really think the CSL is all about 0-60s and drag strips, then you are totally missing the point
Incidently, for those that were wondering, CSL stands for Coupe, Sports, Lightweight

back on topic for a second, which tyres are the owners on here using?
turned out my old evo with the group test between the M3 CSL, the gt3 and the spec c. it seems they were initially overwhelmed by the CSL, but eventually they found it slightly flawed, largely it seems because of the super sticky tyres which allowed you to find superhuman levels of grip but then potentially causing problems at and just over the limit. it would be interesting to know how the car behaves on less specialist rubber, although that is compromising the very essence of the car, bringing it back closer still to standard M3.
having said that, at 40k for a mint 2nd hand example, it is only the cost of a new standard M3 anyway....

Im well aware of what the csl is "all about" but i have my fun on a q/mile strip and on the track ,so if i beat more expensive machinery during this then ill share that on a public forum. All in all the csl is a lovely car and if i had £60000 then it would deffo be one of the cars id look at.It would be nice to see how far you can tune a csl,now that would be rapid!

My old french clutter does ok for itself. Quite suprising when you realise how old the design is.
My best experience with a CSL on the 'ring' was in the scoob where I had a great 3/4 lap with a brit CSL. The guy has done as many laps as me and is a spirited driver. He started out infront and I could hang on behind then he let me pass and tried to hang on behind which he did. The most suprising thing about this guy's driving ability is that he only has one arm !!! Now that is keen............I will never again use the saying I could do that with one arm tied behind my back
I think this is the fella.take a bow sir

I also went out with this csl owner at the ring and was mightly impressed with the csl and the fact that he had 1 arm. Did a 8.35 btg with lots of traffic. He sure knows the place.
As far as the csl goes, its a top piece of kit. As some of you know i have a M3 with smg with sorted brakes and suspension. It goes veryt well but id still like a csl. Would i get one aboye a GT3? Thats a different thread
Buy one Ed, be rude not to matey.

Ish dave, there are a few more toys with the csl ie track mode!
Oh by the way, the induction noise from a CSL top banana, even better than a set of 48's on full chat

Davyboy, yes you do and boy can they make bystanders turn and stare. More so than my P1 full decat ever did. They think a F1 car is coming down the high st. ;-), especially at 22:30hrs after a hard blat and eveything is hot
