i question whether having a ferrari/lambo etc would make someone more attractive than having a scoob/evo etc....i reckon alot of ladies may think you're a posing b'stard just as they would stereotype a huge bodybuilder.
just read all the above back and what a daft discussion, lets face iy if you've got a small ***** you're fooked nothing can make up for it, thats me fooked then.

super si i agree with the suggestion to go somewhere else, it's shame that you have to but that's life.
dont take this the wrong way but you dont walk around with carpets under your armpits do you? cos that will attract unwanted attention whether you're six stone or sixteen stone. just a question mate not being funny...
i too feel intimated in certain bars/clubs and only go out where i feel 'safe' or atleast not stared at, no-ones actually kicked off at me but i get bad vibes in certain places. or it could just be my latent mental illness/paranoia lol!!
bit ironic isn't it that a person can be in the top few % of the population strength wise and be afraid of getting kicked off on when they go out. maybe those who you feel are intimidating you, look at you and assume you to be aggressive because of your build, when in reality you may (or may not?) be a regular guy.

I never got any bother even when I thought I was packing 40 ft of Wilton under each arm, change where you go out Si.
I did all my scrapping as a kid, only had one punch up as an Adult, got mugged for a mobile phone, I got the phone back, doubt the teeth grew back though, I am not hard in the slightest but its amazing how much damage you can inflict even as a non combatant if you put your mind to it.

hmmm, you sure your not carrying an attitude out with you Si? Could be as has been said, your just going to the wrong places, or is it the way your looking at people?
Not been funny, i dont know you, but i've seen guys out who are smaller than me giving loads of people mean looks - trying to make themsleves out to be bigger and harder than they actually are - and its those same guys you see scrapping at the end of the night for some strange reason?!
As for women, yeah, its nice to have the attraction factor, but on the downside, i get fed up of been looked at as a toy by them, maybe its because i'm looking for something more serious now than just a **** on a Saturday night?
Moving back onto topic, of course you can get too big, though the bigger you get, the more respect you get from other people, thats certainly one thing i have found, and the reason i started? - been threatened when i was younger and been too scared to say anything back.

I suppose this has a lot to do with your social circle and/or age group.....aside from the gym i cant see where i'd get "extra" respect because of my size when out and about at my fav restraunt or catching a movie with the wife!
Same for Si's probs with attracting trouble.....99% is self inflicted by placing yourself in a ****ty enviroment to start with.......i have been 6ft6 and 19 stone of muscle but never had anyone "start" on me.
Same with cars, driven Scoobs, TVR's, beemers and never had a race or even close to it.....yet some people think the sec they get a scoob it attracts all sort of "attention"???

Fair enough. I guess it's the same for any city though. If you go in the boozers that have that 'cattle market' feel to them then you are asking for trouble. Testosterone filled blokes with a few beers inside them making them brave all fighting over the few females that have wondered into that bar. They will see blokes like Si as a threat and want to prove their machoism (is that a word?!!) by giving him grief.

Machismo ![Wink](images/smilies/wink.gif)
But i agree, guys who get into fights if they've done a bit of training, especially if there are attitude-altering roids involved, are usually at least partially responsible. Si - focus on the gym, mate, not on proving yourself to a bunch of lagered-up losers.

The problem with some cities is trouble is just waiting to kick off. Best advice is to avoid it in the first place. Being strong or big won't guarantee survival with a group of drunken yobs jumping up and down on your head.

Is it true that Steriods give you spots, small *********, extra hairs, uncontrollable rages, heart attacks later in life?
Seems strange people would even consider taking them to just look like a camp american wrestler. Then watch it all go southwards later on in life.

That said I always thought Lou Ferrigno (the bloke who played the hulk) looked amazing. Very large yes, but he seemed to get away without looking like a freak....odd considering the role he played!!

An observation: It's very rarely the big guys who cause any problems: it's the little guys who want to be big!

Regrettably I'm only 6 foot, so I guess for that reason I'll never look as good as the hulk LOL

I did the gym stuff in my 20's, but never steroids, because as a doctor I knew the side effects, and anyway just wasn't interested in being huge or using artificial means. I d rather see how strong I could get just with natural training. It is great fun and you really enjoyed the cameraderie with your mates who trained and then all go out for beers and on the pull in the clubs after. Never got any real attitude or trouble from others when out, whether the increased size put people off or just that we tended to be more intersted in the women than trying to scrap blokes, i dont know.
Anyway, I reckon it is a great thing to do, and gives you a certain disclipline, but it is not a particularly good route to achieving "respect" in the real world nor for getting the opposite sex attracted. Personality and status are far more important than the curve on a delt.
