First step to having someone take you seriously would be to remove your head from up your own ****. You do that, I'll see about going away.

You seem to be finding me a bit of an irritation Pete, bit hypocritical that you let yourself get wound up, when the only reason you ever post is to do the same to other people.
Still, makes me happy, so tough ****.

OK, three gallons then = 75 miles of driving. IT'S NOT WORTH IT!!!!!!

Take the damned thing to someone who'll test it properly and save yourself the high blood pressure. It's not good at your age. And you can't take the money with you anyway.

I think I might be right in assuming that you're tighter than a camel's a**e in a sandstorm!

I am careful with my money, yes ............. I wasn't born with a silver spoon in my mouth and have never been given a penny without earning it first!

I have decided that they are NOT taking the car out without me, and if they insist then I will go elsewhere.

We shall see, 12:30pm tomorrow

Pete,

I didn't let the tester go out without me in the car -despite his objections-owing to his failure to justify why I shouldn't be allowed to accompany the tester. He was middle aged btw. You're perfectly within your rights to go along and ensure that your car isn't thrashed! The test only needs to be conducted from a low speed in any case.

Regards,

NS04

Mine is in for test tomorrow and after reading this thread i mentioned to the tester about having a passenger go along for the brake test and he said its perfectly fine and understandably is a regular thing. I live in a rural area where there are plenty of scoobies and he says most owners want to ride along. Also, he has never heard of any legislation governing who and how many people can be in the car, he also agreed with me when i said that if it passes its brake test fully loaded it stands to reason that it would pass with just the tester and his little pre-pubescent 'assistant'.

Hope that helps.

Cheers all ..... I rang the test centre manager today and said that following my contact with VOSA I will be expecting to go on the brake test without objection and didn't give them the chance to argue - just said, 'see you tomorrow' and put the phone down.

I fully expect the tester to action his veto .... saying something like, "In his opinion it would be unsafe for the owner to go along on the brake test"

Oh, yes, the tester on Monday said that he had never had that request before and is not inclined to allow it ..... so, we shall see

Thats where they are a bit stuck, see ...... fail it and they get no money for the hassle!!

However, they will probably not be lenient on it - but that could be a good thing .... they cannot fail it for nothing unless it just happens to develop screwdriver shaped holes in the CV Boots or something?!

I have had an outfit spray WD40 up into the shock absorbers of an old Sierra I once had and tell me they are leaking and need replacing or the car is a death trap!!! I took my leave and 10 years later it still had the SAME shockers on!!

Some places are just completely corrupt!

You don't have to be born with a silver spoon in your mouth to get what you pay for, Pete... You've been around long enough to understand that!

Just trying to explain why I'm as tight as a ducks **** .......................

When you have slept rough in bus shelters and had to crack the ice on the loo before you use it, you tend to hang on to all you can ......... its VERY hard to let go!

Of course it's very small, there's nothing in it of any value. In the head of a brain donor, there is only emptiness. Could be his epitaph......

Yeah, that's 'cos I don't troll through every page looking to wind everyone up......but I know a man who does.
Again, thanks for your concern on the subject, however commision will not be forthcoming, regardless of how much time and effort you seem to want to put in trying to help.
If I didn't know better, I'd think you'd posted that up yourself under a pseudonym. But that'd be ungrateful, so I'll banish the thought.

1) What you do when pissed is not my problem
2) I got sent away at 11 to a place with outside toilets - for 7 years we had to break the ice, too!

Spend your money wisely - and remember more can be less if you choose right. It sounds to me like you're setting yourself up for a bigger bill by trying to save money!

Well, they only put the front tyres on the rollers and tested the brakes!

I ran into the workshop with the manager shouting 'STOP!!!'

"It's OK" said the MOT Tester "If it doesn't jump out the rollers then its OK to test with them, so no need to go out anyway"

"Do NOT put the rears into those rollers" I said, "I want a road test!"

"It's really OK Sir, if there was any risk of damage then the car would have spun-out of the rollers" said the mechanic "Don't worry!"

"road test!" I said ...... he finally agreed but showed me all the hassle it would be to set-up the Tappey meter ...... thats ok, I said, I have time.

Emissions test, 3000RPM for about 10 minutes .... seemed odd to me, so I asked him was it having trouble? No he said, "You haven't any plug leads so it has to be done this way"

What?? I thought I had leads?? Why would he need leads anyway??

Anyway, it passed easy ..... I drove the car in the end ......

No way should it take that long for the emissions. I had mine done yesterday and i sat with the guy as he did the emissions and he talked me through it, basically rev it at 2500-3000 until the screen goes green then hold it for 30 seconds, that is repeated a couple of times for other things which i didnt really pay attention to as i was intently watching the screen to see if it passed. Whole test only took 5 minutes including waiting for the engine to be warm enough to get a 'green' in the first place!
