Rioja is quite right, he has no excuse for driving at those speeds on a public road without authorisation or under special circumstances.
Wonder how many deaths are caused each year by class 1 police drivers in pursuit. It shows it can happen and although you may well feel justified in defending them when they are in hot pursuit, you can't say the same for this bloke.

How can he be expected to drive at high speed, from time to time, in say a pursuit situation, if he does not practice occassionally and how would he know what his vehicle would be capable of or how it would handle?

I've got more respect for the police force knowing that they've taken this action against one of their own, that they are here to serve the public and that the police force is not a little boys club where they do what they like.

what a crock off ****!!! 'testing the car' more like fancied seeing how fast it could go to brag down the pub to his mates like most of us do.
cant believe some of you lot a defending him. Do you reckon any of us would be let off for doing that kind of speed because we wanted to see what our cars were capable of?
police f*ck me off when its one rule for us and another for them. get pulled over for 'going a bit quick' by a copper then a few days later i get over taken by 2 patrol cars on a blind corner on solid white lines, no blue lights/sirens, blatently 'aving a laugh'.
not saying all police are f*cks but the ones that are really p1ss me off.
i've heard from a mate of mine (who's a copper) that police are not supposed to go over double the speed limit even when in pursuit, net alone when 'testing'.
what diff does it make what the top speed of his car is?? 'oh i wont bother pursuing that criminal his car has a higher top speed'
fI_Icking losers'!

Brother is police trained driver (not police, a different service), and had to drive at 140-150mph as part of training. This was done on a quiet (though not empty) motorway. He's also had to drive at high speed in 30-40-50 zones, again as part of training.
Having said all that, this was all with an instructor, and was emphatically not an off-the-cuff blat. T
The PC in this case appears, on the face of it, to be completely outwith his authority, and will almost certainly lose his licence and job as a result.
