You have to ask why they are doing this - it has to be that they are preparing for the 2.5 PPP kit, no?
If so - and if I had £30k I would pass up the offer and take the 2.5..

This just goes to prove what we all know, Subaru cars are seriously overpriced when bought through the dealer network. I'm sure almost everyone would rather have £2k off an STi rather than a free PPP especially as for some people a PPP will be uninsurable.

Gutted
PPP was on the shopping list before i went to buy MY05 WRX 6 weeks ago. Like everyone else i would have waited a little longer if i had known free PPP was on the horizon. Like some of the previous threads i would be interested to hear how this effects new car insurance.

I've been quoted about 25k for a new STi with PPP which seeing as you could probably knock them down to 24k for a new Sti without PPP, as others have reported, means that they are effectively doing the PPP at cost - something you could probably negotiate close to on a new car anyways.

Picking up the PPP insurance point, when I phoned round for quotes Privilege told me that if the PPP was fitted by the dealer from new it did not count as a modification, as they have the STI PPP on their standard list. In fact, the PPP did not add anything to the premium compared with the standard STI, which came out at £469 - not too bad at all.
However I was also told that if I bought a standard STI then added PPP at a later date, they would treat it as a modification and the premium would almost double! No logic to it at all.

The STi PRODRIVE STYLE is listed with the Association Of British Insurers (ABI), the Prodrive Performance Pack (PPP) specced cars ARE NOT.
The Prodrive Style model relates to the MY02 Type UK, and is purely cosmetic changes. Spoiler,sill extensions, instrument cluster changes.
The power is STD at 265PS, with PPP it rises to 305PS, or approx 15% increase over STD.

I strongly believe the advisor has misunderstood what you have been telling him/her and you ARE NOT INSURED.
The PPP kit CANNOT be fitted to a new vehicle, as the car has to be registered and insured PRIOR to fitment, to comply with emission regs.
It can only legally be fitted to a secondhand car, as the emissions levels on those can be higher than a brand new car.
Even if it is fitted before you take delivery, it is still technically a secondhand car when fitted.
Even the WR1 has the PPP kit fitted AFTER registration and insuring by the owner, but is accepted as STD by the ABI. No other Impreza is classified like this, hence my multiple letters to Sam Burton last year, and Peter Kinnaird and Dave Richards this year.

Surely the answer is to buy a euro import and with the money saved you can buy a PPP if you want one!

As far as I am concerned I provided all the necessary information to enable a valid insurance certificate to be issued, but to check out your point I have run another quote on the Privilege web site.
When you input the reg number of my old car, it comes up as SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0T P/DRIVE WRX STI UK, but when you do not input a reg number and select by year, this option does not appear for a 2003 car, but does appear for a 2002 car. This confirms your point that the description refers to the "Prodrive Style" version rather than the later one with the engine mods.
As it happens I no longer have this particular car, but it is worrying that this sort iod discrepancy might cause a problem in the event of a claim.

When I input the reg number of my STi MY02 Prodrive Style in the Privilege web site it comes up as a WRX, not even STi.
I have owned the car from new, and its definately a Prodrive Style.!!
Like you say, its worrying.
