I did some tax a while ago, don't remember that much of it, thank God ![Smile](images/smilies/smile.gif)
IIRC, you can only offset loses of a similar type. So your CGT loss cannot be offset against your income tax. You would be able to offset it against other capital gains that you have realised in that financial year.
They really do want to charge CGT on your residence, they looked into it already. The problem they are faced with is a way of taking the money without bankrupting people. Many people HAVE to move, simply due to employment. If paying the tax means that they cannot afford accomodation where they are moving too, it may end up costing the goverment more in the end.
You can bet there is a tax charge coming soon. It is just a question of where. Personally I can see fuel duty, vehicle excise duty (tax disc) going up. They may also start to apply the fuel rate of VAT onto your insurance premium as opposed to the current (IIRC) 5% rate. There will be many other small changes like that to get extra revenue.
Unless of course he just changes his mind and puts up NI......

How about VAT on processed food. Not fresh, the rationale/excuse being that this is to encourage healthy eating.
Of course many would carry on buying thus ensuring a steady tax income.

Nice, did not think of that one. I think it would really upset pensioners. They tend not to be able to shop that regularly when they get old, hence have to have quite a bit of tinned stuff. But hey, do they care about them??

That's why the tax take would be good.
Vat on food in France.
So apples, flour, sugar, butter no VAT.
Frozen apple pie VAT.

If the Joker gets back in I think it'll be a forced "Contribution" from whatever source of income you have into a "Pension Adjustment Fund" which will be centrally administered. IE Wasted. Again.

I heard they are going to clobber pensioners even harder with the 'grown up child tax'. This will rake in extra money to help pay for people with costly non grown up children. Well...what else do pensionersneed to spend on other than HUUUUGE council tax and themselves - selfish burgers!

Hmmm
How about 1p in the pound to pay for the police to drive from Heathrow to London and Back for the benefit of a prvate citizen. (At our cost of course)
PSLEWIS - Care to comment on this leaching ???
