Anyone used NatWest's Fastpay to pay for anything on an Ebay etc.?

I have a nasty feeling that the guy I bought something from recently is trying to stiff me - it's now about 3 weeks since I paid and apparently the item is "lost" in the post (went recorded delivery which means no proof of posting) and he is now wanting to claim though their insurance. I'm being reasonably patient to let the guy try and get the Post Office to sort it out, but my patience is running out...

Same thing happened a couple of years ago and I ended up writing it off thanks to bloody Mastercard. It's things like this that really spoil what should otherwise be a fantastic way of getting rid of old things or selling without middlemen, but sometimes you just feel like paying the extra for the security and peace of mind you get from a bonafide company. I guess that's why firms like Dixons will always be around because cowboys spoil the alternatives.

Aaahhhh

Where's Esther Rantzen when you need her?

You do have proof of posting with recorded delivery. You have to take it to the post office, they put the orange sticker on the envelope containing tracking number, with another orange sticker on the back with the name and address of the sender, they then give the sender the receipt with the tracking reference number on, which can be checked either on the internet or over the phone.

I agree that when as the buyer you have paid the seller should leave feedback. Your part of the deal has been completed. Sellers too often hold you to ransom now by refusing to leave feedback until you do, which puts pressure on you not to neg them if they take 2 weeks to deliver (as happened to me). Also looks like they have something to hide about the goods they are selling. When I sell anything on ebay I leave feedback as soon as payment is recieved.
I always pay immediately by paypal, what more do sellers want?
Also, paypal will not get involved in "quality of goods" arguements, if you put a claim in and the seller can prove delivery (even if its a empty envelope) they dont want to know.
Now if I want to bid on something I email the seller and ask them their policy on feedback and if it isnt as soon as payment has been made then I wont be bidding on their auctions.

I sell on eBay every day. I have had experience of empty-headed buyers, but a way to eliminate this is to give a clear and precise description of the item with several close-up good quality photos showing all sides of the item. I also state my terms and conditions of sale in the description, methods of payment accepted, postage prices to UK, Europe and Worldwide and return policy if not satisfied.

Seems like a lot of work, but if you use TurboLister and save your own template design then it is easy.

I leave feedback on receipt of payment and use Selling Manager Pro to send information to the customer after each step (payment received, article posted etc).
I always get a P.O. receipt and proof of postage.

The result so far...100% feedback and many satisfied customers.

When the wheel comes off do not expect e-bay to be interested other than standard e-mail responses that do not address the specific issues of an individual situation.
For me, the management of e-bay is designed to take the money with little responsibility to the parties involved and make it nigh on impossible to make direct contact with e-bay when serious problems arise.
e-bay = total tossers. Caveat emptor.

Big-G, you can give the clearest description you like, you'll still come across idiots or fraudsters. I had one buyer leave feedback saying 'Postage not free as stated' when there was no mention of free postage in the auction!
I had another buyer who was from Slovenia, using an unconfirmed Paypal payment with delivery to a youth hostel, complaining on why I was so cautious on sending him the goods!

That is of course if you don't have a direct phone number given to Gold Powersellers and above or the use of Live Chat at all levels.

Matt- Proof of delivery in some sellers cases would come in monthly on account from the courier company. Therefore feedback from the buyer can help when they receive the item to let the seller know of it's arrival.

Remember, these views are largely from other Powersellers I talk to and I can see what they mean. I wouldn't want to deal on eBay in some categories for all the tea in China.

Personally I leave feedback after payment but then my category doesn't suffer from kids out to rip you off or indeed think feedback is important enough to use as a blackmail tool.

It's all good fun.

One of my auctions is up to £20+ and I just got asked if I would sell it for £5. How do these people know how to switch a computer on??????

I just think when people like Freak say they never leave feedback until it has been left for them are just trying to force people in to leaving positive feedback. Bascaly he is saying if I win the auction I pay immediately via paypal. I have a legitimate issue with the service or goods, I've done my bit but his stance is such that no matter what, I'm going to receive a negative as i've left him a negative for a LEGITIMATE reason. Even though I've fullfiled my part of the contract.

Im not forcing anyone into leaving feedback- positive or otherwise.
I dont even care if its left or not- my rating is high enough and still 100%.

My whole point (and i think spoons too) is that some people cant differentiate between the seller, the product, and the mail service.

Look at it from my perspective:
By your definition, the minute I have dropped it off at the post office, I have fulfilled my part of the transaction. So technically, if it gets lost, damaged, eaten or whatever its not my problem and i could tell them to sod off.

Unfortunately, it doesnt work like that- and problems do occur.

I have no problems with being left a negative- if my actions were to warrant it.
Its when idiots leave a '-' for 'took 3 days instead of one to arrive' when I posted within an hour of payment received by first class recorded, or ' Wasnt sent signed for' when it WAS, but the postman couldnt be bothered knocking to get a signature.

If someone moans about that, then leaves me a '-' then Im not bloody happy with the transaction or the buyer, and may choose to leave one accordingly.
Just because someone has paid does not mean the transaction is complete, and it certainly doesnt automatically indicate a satisfactory conclusion from my perspective- and as such I have every right to leave whatever feedback I feel appropriate regarding the entire trnsaction/communication between the buyer and myself.

Each to their own and all that.

You've hit the nail on the head when you say people can't tell what thry are supposed to be leaving feedback for. But you then contradict yourself.
On the one hand you are saying that people should be able to tell the difference between what service and product you are supplying (and leave feedback accordingly) and other 3rd party elements Royal Mail, them being thick etc. So you agree feedback should be left for the service provided and the product (assuming correctly advertised etc).

They leave a -ve for some stupid reason. They obviuosly don't understand what they are leaving feedabck for.

The buyer is supplying a service too, that service is prompt payment, the buyer does this but you won't leave feedback until they do. As they've left a -ve above you to leave a negative but your not basing your feedback on their service but another factor I.e. -ve feedback.

We can argue about this forever. It's just aswell it's not jsut our opinions on this or everyones feedback rating would be zero

Can we agree on the following.

A lot of people that use ebay are donkeys. If only people with more than one brain cell were allowed to bid the only -ve's would be legitimate and both our views would be irrelevant anway?

And call it a day?

My main gripe was the guy's feedback was negative only because mine was. It's quite obvious he used a bot to give good feedback. My reason being this - I bought 2 items from him. The first item was fine and I gave good feedback. I more or less instantly received good feedback from him. I then gave the bad feedback re his failure to answer ANY of my emails and phone calls over a week's period. 2 days later, I get a bad feedback from him stating I should have phoned! wtf? I DID!

Anyway.... bollocks to him. I replied appropriately, and have now instigated Paypal chargeback to get my money back for his crap merchandise. w4nker! Can you tell I'm balled off?
