I got the 16v as it loves to rev, but it didn't really want to know below 4000rpm. The torque is only slightly different to the 8v so as a day to day car there is probably not much difference between the two.
I got mine superchipped not long after I bought it, (whilst still under warranty)not to give it more power, but to give it more low end grunt. Worked a treat as the power is smooth all the way through the rev range now. It will overtake things at 30mph in 5th which it wouldn't have done before.
Also, the chip has improved economy no end, I use it mostly on the motorway now and regularly see well into the 40mpg's. Max I have had is 53.5 driving like a fairy home from work (25m) but it will do it! Unbelievable.

40 - 53.5MPG???
I can see me using it more than the girlfriend. I might keep my eye out for one for myself!
How much was the superchip if you dont mind me asking? Sounds like a worth while mod..

It was about £225 if I remember from Superchips. It will have saved me more than that in juice years ago, plus there's the extra drivability too. (16v)
Was a bit dubious at first but more power, flatter torque curve more mpg. What more can you want. It responded really well to it.

Hey if you want a Daihatsu talk to me. I run the GTti owners club and have 3 of the things. They are sinmply the most insane and fun hatchbacks out there once you tune them up. A lightly modded GTti will easily outrun my Impreza and a strandard one returns great mpg and is still very quick and a great hoot. Have a look at www.gttioc.co.uk. I know of a simply superb one for sale at present which I would buy myself if I had the room.
We should have a photo shoot in Retro cars soon and I think it will shock some people when you see what you can get out of these cars. I won't give too much away but a better power output than my Impreza in a lightened car of around 500 kilos.

Do you know if they are a worthwhile mod to an 8v? Not too fussed about the 8bhp increase, but Im more interested in the economy side of it as we do 120 mile commute everyday, so if we can get a little increase in performance AND fuel consumption, everyones a winner!!

In all honesty I'm not sure. I know it is basically the same engine apart from the head, so maybe. Mine pulled cleaner throughout the rev range, but the biggest gains were in the poor low end grunt. I think the chip just makes the torque curve flatter and much more driveable day to day. Top end urge was improved but not that much. Maybe an 8v will get even better mpg?...

Doesn't really matter now that she has found a car but I would have suggested a Nissan 200SX S14 P-reg, 2ltr turbo, RWD, 0-60 in a little over 6 secs, all for less than £3k. Although I assume your GF was looking for a normally aspirated car for insurance reasons. Looks like a nice car she's picked up.
