Mick

96 wasnt my fault and shoving him up the hill wouldnt have been my fault

and even IF i hit him/her up there back side just remember its not like doing it with a car ,the police look at what distance the car pulled in on me (and take my weight in to it)and if it was less than the limit ,then ask the car driver why he did this, when theres no turn off, bingo your nicked for dangerous driving so think before you drive like a ****

Can't be arséd to read the whole thread but it's very rare I see a professional bit of driving from one of the lardies that the majority of drivers appear to be today.

I've seen some appalling attempts to steer a trailer into a yard in the last few years particularly.

Mind you, same goes for most of the Police driving I witness.

Occassionally you do see a spark of brilliance from drivers you'd expect to me good.

However the "professional" tag is much more to do with the fact they are paid to drive as a job than their expertise.

You are born a good driver, coupled with good manners and common sense you'll do a good job.

Training for people who are only doing it for a job will never make a good driver.

Truck drivers do have it hard, I always flash a wagon at a roundabout if he/she is going right, just to let him know he can own the road and I'll wait. It's no bother waiting if it means it makes it easier for the trucker.

I'll flash them out too on busy roundabouts if I think they are going to be sitting there all day because no one else gives them a thought. Obviously I weigh up the safety of such a gesture for others around.

It then really is a pity that you find yourself having to slow down on say a dual carraigeway because a wagon has pulled out up a hill to overtake a similar wagon, knowing full well it's just not going to happen.

That's not professional judgement, that's pig ignorance and an embarrassment to those that drive well.

Nicely put Spoon. I liek you try to be nice to lorries and other road users most of the time. It is just when they are pig ignorant about things that it really gets my goat.

As for a lorry driver being allowed to hit a car, not a chance. You can easily pull in front of a truck and then slow down at a reasonable rate till the truck is at a dead stop. If he rams you, he really is in the s*it. After all, its only reasonable to brake if a dog runs out onto the motorway.

I guess the truck driver will say that he did not see a truck, well that is not a great surprise, he did not even see the car that braked in front of him!

I have heard of truck drivers losing their licenses for offences like that.......

Next time I see a truck take 5 miles to overtake someone, I'll be braking in front of them after seeing the attitudes on here. If I get rammed up the **** I have them in court.

i take you have just had a brain fart????

if a dog runs out in front of you, you will brake hard ,then you will cause a big crash all for a bloody dog (thats motorway speeds)

Its the sit back and take it attitude that is wrong with this country. Nobody cares anymore about just about anything.....

Its not a brain fart to brake if a dog runs out. Maybe you in your truck can afford to hit one full tilt, but most cars do not react well to something like that.....

By the way I prefer a cheque

Anyway, do you really feel the need to take 5 miles to overtake something? Thats the issue here. If it takes that long to get past, then you are not going to gain anything other than a few seconds even over 100 miles. Wait till you have a least a 2mph advantage to get past. I'm the sort that flashes lorries out to overtake. Its just the ones that do it deliberately to slow others down that cause the problems.

Me perfect!! You must be kidding......

BTW, I think you should have a read of some of my other posts. Normally you see me sticking up for the HGVers. Not a nice job, and most are pretty good at it. Its the odd bad egg that really causes a lot of heartake

The slow overtaking issue is just the same as the middle lane hogging issue. I't not come across anyone that likes it when it is done to them.....

Thats the trouble , you dont always know how far it will take to overtake , the guy on the inside finds a bit of speed caused by a heavy load and a bit of a downhill (the car driver woudnt even notice this ) and he wont want to lose any speed and youre trapped in the outside lane with a load of irate car drivers behind you

but to call HGV drivers having bad attitudes then say

" Next time I see a truck take 5 miles to overtake someone, I'll be braking in front of them after seeing the attitudes on here. If I get rammed up the **** I have them in court. "

is a bit rich in my book

p.s. I dont know of any HGV drivers holding cars up on purpose

Thats the bit where I get annoyed. When they are DOING it deliberately. You can tell this when they are pi**ing themselves laughing when the eventually let you past......Its not often, but it does happen.

Anyway, 5 miles is a long long, looong way. At some point either the guy overtaking could just give up (after 2 miles for eg). Or even, heaven forbid, the guy on the inisde just slow a little.

Most of us do this for other people. Like when there is the BMW behind me that wants to do more than 90. To help them on their way I often move over into a gap that would not normally be big enough for them, and just ease down to 80-85 for 10 seconds to let them get on their way. Its so easy to do, and just eases the tension that starts to fill everyone.

Going to take a chill pill, and really really try to avoid the urge of pulling in front of the next truck that makes me sit behind him for 5 miles. Going to have to find that tape of wale songs to play for just that instance. So to Scooby Si, if you see a Scoobie finally overatke you, with a driver looking all irrate and busily shreading his "relaxation tape" you will know who it was

£14 per hr sounds good enough to me. Traffic in general *sigh*, it gets us all down. We need more roads Then we will all be happy

As far as I'm aware I don't receive a payslip, sounds awfully tawdry.

I took a look what the minimum wage is and it doesn't look awfully different in terms of having to live like a dog.
