Sounds to me like the local council agreed to move it pretty damn quick due to a guilty conscience ? Maybe they knew they were planting it in a dodgy location when they installed it ? Also, it was done without any prior warning. If you'd wanted to erect a totem pole in your front garden, I bet you'd have had to go through miles of red tape to get there.
Glad you have a happy ending anyways. It must be a headache for these councils trying to decide where to place all the lamp posts, telegraph poles etc. They are never going to please all the people all the time.

Yes but asking the owner of the house they are about to have an erection on if it's OK might go some way to pleasing some of the people some of the time

First of all, your challenge said nothing about whether a lamp was already there or not:

The next person that thinks I should leave it where it is can only comment if they provide a picture of the streetlight that is nearest to their house. I'll bet not a single one of you has one directly outside.
Is the camera angled? Yes. The lamp is directly in line with the corner of the house. The window is about six feet in from the corner of the house. You work out the angle, but it's not much. So technically, yes, it's directly in front of the house since it's not displaced past a line extended from the side of the house.

All of which misses my original point: I too have a lamp that shines directly in through the front windows (and looks a lot closer than your's too), but I don't mind because I have blinds on my windows. Perhaps you've heard of them? Like curtains, they serve to keep stray light out.You should give them a try.

Bollocks to you. You're obviously some kind of nut job. If you bought a house and lived in it for 7 years then suddenly had a sodding great light shining in through your window, you would be pissed off too. End of conversation.

I'm sorry, but I don't understand? Am I a nut-job because I know how to cover my windows, or a nut-job because I don't whinge like a spoilt eight-year old?

You're a nut-job because you seem to think that because you have a streetlamp offset from your window and that it's been there since the house was built that this is somehow the same as a new streetlamp being erected in direct line of sight of my main living rooms.

You're a nut job because not only do you feel that people should just put up with things they don't like and go along with such things sheep-like.

You're a nut-job because you seem to think that actually taking action against something you don't agree with (and winning, I might add) is somehow the actions of a "spoiled 8 year old".

I do, our living room is at the back and the lamp is to the middle of the house and therefore doesn't shine directly in to any bedroom.

Good result Rev!

Yes, but you're used to it. We're not. The thing's an eyesore and now it's getting moved.

It's not so much the issue of light coming in, it's the fact that it's right in front of my house where a more attractive location would be at the corner of my property where it would also light 3 converging footpaths instead of just one, not be in anyone's way, not be seen from my house and offer more diffused light through my already thick curtains.

As mentioned ad infinitum above: the council agreed with all of my points and didn't even question the complaint. In fact, I didn't even make an official complaint, I only asked who I should complain to and they offered to move it!
