The economics of it really are quite simple. The cost to produce the drivel is quite cheap. Secondly as it is completely automated, no staff are required to maintain anything. As for the advertising, we recently had a "1 Million pound" advertising campaign but in reality that was list price on premium channels. If its on second tear channels like TMF etc and you buy enough space in bulk, at slow times (ie low viewer values/demograhpics) etc then you would be suprised how cheap you can obtain these.
Another thing is dont forget that as its subscription based, you should get a good two or three months out of each user, so thats £3 * 4weeks * 3months = £36 per signup, get three per go and youve made I suspect. Also if you use adware and popups its gets even better ROI. You can buy 50,000 uniques for about £200.
Also if they have their own sms center (ie their volume is high enough and they invest properly) then the costs are like 3p a msg.
Don't ask me how I know this

Its nice to know that there are other people who feel the same way. I no longer feel alone in my hatred for Jamster
Cups of tea are a good idea, but there are only so many that you can drink in one day

Lol I must be the only one that finds them amusing. Crazy frog vs Axel F cracks me up everytime. Possibly something to do with the fact it drives my girlfriend nuts

I also remember seeing the F1 clip - something along the lines of "I bet you cant watch this vid clip and not laugh". It was small clip of an F1 car with this kid doing the sounds. It makes me laugh how everyone thinks the sound is a friggin frog.
If I was the guy that did that original clip I would be claiming royalties.
