does that have 2.0 turbo then?
Pretty quick then, unless the monitoring/recording system was wrongly callibrated to try to catch innocent scooby drivers, and it back fired a little.
Hmmmmmm still quick though

"District Judge Bruce Morgan acquitted him after calling the constable the "creme de la creme" of police drivers."
So if Michael Schumacher was pulled for doing 160mph down a dual carriage way he would get away scott free, as he is the "creme de la creme" of F1 drivers...
I think not.![Cuckoo](images/smilies/cuckoo.gif)

Im quite glad he got off.. (just to **** you lot off!!)
It would be different if it was a scoobynetter.. (Well apart from the 80 in a 30) but we dont know the road so cant comment, if I was a traffic copper and got given a new 'company car' Id want to know exactly what it can and cant do before chasing the scum that pinch our cars.

I agree - but there's tracks and testing circuits where they can do this - not on public roads!
84 in a 30 - there's just no excuse. And testing the cars capabilities - that's just ridiculous.
According to BBC Midlands Today, there was a young new recruit in the passenger seat - sounds more like he was showing off to me.

FFS it was 3am! he wasn't exactly endangering other road users on a empty stretch of motorway.
I think he got the right verdict, there is only one place to practice pursuit driving and that is on a road, not on a airfield.

Petter Solberg, Colin Macrae, Sebastian Loeb, Marcus Gronholm et al, exceed the speed limit on the public highway between stages. They are advanced drivers by any stretch of the imagination, they are "getting a feel for the way the car handles", do they escape prosecution? Do they 'eck as like.
BTW mentioned in autocar that in order for the speed quoted to be accurate they were of the opinion that it would have to be pushing out at least 400bhp, so it looks as if the bizzies have shot themselves in the foot (10% calibration error anyone?).

84 in a 30 is an unforgiveable criminal offence, regardless of who you are, what car you drive or what time of day it is.
However, I don't really have such a problem with the 154 on a motorway in the middle of the night.

LOL @ all these "Can a Vectra really do 159mph" comments ![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
And as for doing 84mph in a 30mph at 3am being an unforgiveable criminal offence, do me a favour...![Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)](images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Killing another human is an unforgiveable criminal offence, but *not* a highly trained Class 1 advanced Police driver doing 84 in a 30.
I know of a few 30mph limits where I could do 84mph and not endanger anyone.
The A30 in Staines, Middx being one of them.

Yes but Police pursuit vehicles are modded to suit the requirements of the purchasing force, and then properly maintained too.
Always remember the Police Impreza: "Sgt Mike Peck of Humberside Police's stolen vehicle pursuit team says of the forces Subaru Impreza Turbo "We decided to leave the standard suspension alone because it combines excellent damping with long spring travel. It allows us to skim over 'traffic calming' humps at 70 mph and the sump guard helps prevent damage"

Doesn't surprise me if a 3.2 V6 Vectra getting up to that sort of speed, definitely can't see it would need 400bhp. I have been in previous shape 2.5 V6 Vectra which comfortably went past 150 on the speedo - this was genuinely on a bright, sunny, empty motorway on mainland Europe. Unlike scoobs, they are fairly aerodynamic and have low transmission losses
Difficult to comment on the offence without knowing the details, but if it was a "safe" place to do 84 in a 30, then (1) The police are admitting that the speed limit is completely ridiculous at that point, and (2) it is still very ill advised because of the kind of image that these acts will portray to the public.

I like the way it makes a point about the time he did it - as if that's significant!!! I can see the judge now - ahh Mr Abdabz I see you murdered your victim in the wee hours - ahh forsooth - you are free to do it again...
No excuse on public roads - ban him, sack him and move on...
By letting him off has set a precedent for us all - should any of us ever get caught we all now know we can simply use the defence "Just testing the cars limits officer" and "its the miggil of the night officer" and everything is OK with the world..

Seeing as all this happened in the Telford area - very strange that the court hearing was held in the small town of Ludlow, miles from Telford. Why not the County Courts in Shrewsbury? Very
The M54 is not a suitable road for doing excessive speeds anyway
, the surface is shíte as well as being 90% 2 lanes only as someone mentioned.
