Has no one here ever driven on a motorway at 3am before?
All you need is a 1 mile stretch of road with no other cars in sight and 159mph is not a big deal, it really isn't.
Honestly, you are all just jealous

Ok here's my say
Right, firstly where do you write the letter of disgusted
Secondly, at what point has a policeman (enforcer of the law) ANY more right to break the law than I have! The answer is simply they haven’t! If they cause an accident whilst driving a car even in the course of legitimately driving fast then they are still legally responsible!
Now that said as this guy wasn't driving for any other reason, other than having fun, then HOW the **** is he able to break the law! Now to me the prosecution should have pushed this point!
If he wanted to get used to the car then he should have taken it to a police training area!
To put this in perspective, a friend of mine was killed by a taxi as he walked across the road @ 1am one night. In a 30 zone... it actualy cut him in half... now the law says a cop could do whatever he likes no sirens nothing and he's not breaking the law! WTF is this country doing!
This means that they are effectively ABOVE the law, they can drive like they want, without purpose or GOOD reason and if they kill someone they're not responsible as they weren’t breaking the law... that’s the thing the whole case and has some far reaching issues!
I'm sure that should worry us all, as some tit in a cop car could run into you and the family, not even be responding to a call kill your children and because he's exploring the vehicles capabilities, and in doing so was involved in killing your children then that’s perfectly acceptable! F@cking Bo!!ox!
The judge in this case was completely wrong! We can't live in society were there are two rules ... public and police! This is not some little African country... it’s the UK..!FFS
Regardless of what people said about the speeding being ok because every does it and I for one give it large when possible! "Apart from going mad in a 30 which really I leave for chavs whatever the time!" the principal that the police are above the law is very disturbing and I for one am fooooking livid!

What I'm getting from this is:
a) Speed does NOT kill.
Common sense at last.
b) The police appear to be above the law.
Yes, and they always have been and always should be. They can shoot you dead quite legally, or do we want that power removed and punished?
c) It's a PR disaster for the police who appear to have fcuked up on just about every aspect of the whole affair.
They are bumbling fools, but wielding massive powers. Now THAT has major and dangerous implications, and is the only thing that worries me.
Richard.

Jasey, don't think I'm off my head yet.
In fact, I think I agree with you. (b) is fine, but only if we're happy with (c) which we clearly are not. That's the worrying dilemma.

159mph on any public road in the uk is ridiculous no matter how well you are trained. Could he stop safely in the distance he could see ahead? I doubt it. On a track where you know the road ahead is clear of debris & obstructions then fine but on a road where there are so many things outside your control is criminal IMHO.

Anyhow we're all told how Speed Kills and what a danger it is - Unless you're a copper when it obviously becomes much safer !
Remember this guy's firearms trained - So saying the Police can legally shoot you might not be a good Idea - He might just be reading this .
Once again we see that speeding is seen by the authorities as revenue generation rather than safety !

It just adds to what I already thought and I wont be shy about it. I personally think The majority of the police are f**king Wa**ers and I hate them.
I once had a copper tell me that "The trouble is most coppers are @rse holes" and I couldnt agree more. Sorry if you are a good one - You really are one in a million and the chances are if you are sat there thinking yes thats me I dont mean you in the slightest and you are probably a ***** too.

Ok, you want the conspiracy theory?
Policeman let off driving at very high speeds in all limits.
Much of public angry.
Allright says Government to public "Let's have ISA as soon as possible then no one can speed".
Remember, I am a cynic, so may be totally wrong.

I just find them arrogant. Ever since the day I could drive I have been pulled over and aggresively spoken down to. In my opinion the police are there to enforce the law but this is not what happens - They think they are the law.
To be honest I think it is the revenue grabbing (yes I know it is the government) that winds me up and their attitude to the everyday criminal sorry the motorist.
It is the way they are so focused on giving the motorist a hard time and then when you want to report a real crime they couldnt give a stuff - Why Cos they dont make any money from catching thiefs. An example of this is when they dont even come round if you are broken into anymore - Pathetic.
My girlfriend got fined and she is a very good careful driver who strayed to 35mph in a 30 zone - At 9AM on a sunday morning on a stretch of road that should really be a 40. Come on this copper got away with 60 in a 30 zone.
And the copper that pulled me over about a month ago to have a go at me for doing 45 mph in a queit 30. Fair enough - No absolute rubbish after speaking to me for about 5 minutes and me denying it he said OK maybe 40 then - That was rubbish too. No evidence and I can tell you I was at the most at 33 as I saw him in my mirror.
I would just like to mention though the only time a woman officer EVER pulled me she was very nice and I actually drove away with a smile on my face (No nothing dodgy what so ever) - Just a bloody nice person.

Unbelievable!
Did anyone hear Radio 5 this evening? Some kid was arrested by a copper, and used his mobile phone to record the copper telling him to quote: "shut the **** up" and " your not so fecking big now that its not a woman are you?" AFAIK there was nothing physical, just verbals.
Well the new Met Police chief, Ian Blair, has gone as record as saying her wants this guy "fast tracked out of the force asap"
So, 159 on the motorway, 84 in a 30, its, "thats Ok, off you go son".
Give some little ****** soem back chat however, and your out of the door so fast your feet don't touch the ground.
Be interested in hearing any serving officers views on this.
I think it shows how far done the road of insanity this country has gone!

I've just worked out........ I pay my own wages!!!! Wondered how long it would take for that one to get thrown in, i usually switch off the minute i here that one cus it just bores me!!
So he's Firearms trained as well?? Still think he is just an ordinary copper? I'm beginning to think there is something else here we don't know about.
And as far as i know it was a police car he was driving wasn't it?
And i'd love to know where this police testing area is many of you think we have, let me at it with my Scoob!!
I expected the usual half wit 'all coppers are w*ankers' but it didn't materialise just as badly as expected but still there from the shallow end of the gene pool! (I got done for speeding and hate all cops!!!)
Just another point off topic, as for being able to shoot anyone legally i really don't know where htat comes from. As a firearms officer myself i know full well if i shoot anyone in the course of my duty there is a very good, if not 100% chance i will be charged with murder and have to clear my name. I applied for that job and accept fully any consequences that might come along, we aren't above the law and never will be.

the mad thing with this is that a few years ago loads of world rally drivers were done on the wales rally GB for doing a little bit over the speed limit yet this copper gets away with doing nearly 160mph, in my opinion wrc drivers are better drivers than the police will ever be.

yes but you,d get off!!!!!
here,s a laughable tag line from my local rag.... there is a job advertised by West sussex constabulary ...
the tag line for the force....
"diverse communitys need uniform support"
how about uniform policing & sentencing!!!!!
Just because the guys highly trained and an experianced driver dosn,t change anything,, if i recall you are permitted to drive at speeds in excess of the national limits in the course of you duty, however that does not preclude you from prosecution should an incedent occur...
how would this bloke have approached you or i if we had been driving like that?? how would the judge have seen it.
tell me Chris, what is the doctrine for a situation where the officer looses control of the situation, or the vehicle suffers a terminal defect, or an event occurs that would result in the loss if life to an individual due to the officers actions.... what does the training manual specify ?? would the officer sacrifice his life to prevent an incedant???
you know as well as the rest of us if an individual had stepped out or an other serious interaction event had occured, at the speeds he was travelling, he wouldnt have had time to react.
if your lot are so highly trained, why are there so many incedants of people killed injured by police cars on shouts... surely these highly trained persons should be able to take appropriate action to prevent these situations??
and you wonder why people dont respect your lot...
look at your role model!!!!

can't say just for saying "arab" can count for being classed as a racist FFS , what would you call guy's of a " darker colour than white " calling us " white boy's " are they also racist , if it was a black or other colour than white copper talking like that would he also be classed as racist ???? think not ,it's just because this one was white ,as soon as anything is said or done between white's and non-white's the white's are alway's classed as a racist , non-white's can also be racist's you know

If this bloke has done nothing wrong, why did his colleagues feel the need to turn over the video to the bosses ?
Frankly, he deserves to be busted for stupidity, leaving the camera recording.

Context has a lot to do with this. If someone says "I saw this arab walking down the road", it probably wouldn't be considered racist. If that same someone had said "I saw this arab b4stard walking down the road", I'm fairly sure most people would regard that as racist.

The points made about the stopping distance etc from a speed like that are perfectly valid and the speeds in the 30 mph zone were disgraceful, whatever the time of day.
There is no place for 3 figure speeds like that on public roads, it is grossly irresponsible and unfair to others.
Those who think there is nothing wrong with that, how would you feel about everyone being allowed to drive around like that on even not very crowded roads? What sort of safety margins would that generate?
If you want to drive like that, go on a track day somewhere, at least there is unlikely to be someone coming from the other direction. Its is really good fun too without risking anyone else's life.
All this "pie in the sky" moralising about "speed does not kill" etc. needs a bit of common sense injected into it when you are talking about such excessive speeds on public roads.
