It's by no means not enjoyable and some scenes are very good. Can't help but feel that it should have been better. Perhaps the advances in CGI have spoilt Lucas and he's just tried to cram too many effects in to the point where you're somewhat saturated and unable to focus on what matters i.e. the action and the characters.
Worth a look though, and to be fair, it does tie the ends up nicely.

Please tell me Yoda does not do his comedy "bounce n spin" routine again, ala his battle with Dooku in AOTC? It was somewhat funny I must say, but a little silly.
I've not got any tickets booked yet, will drag Rosie along next week to see it. It's weird, as I've read a lot about the film, and obviously have known the ending for many years, but there is still a yearning to go and see how GL actually plays out the final act of Anakin's transition from the Light to Dark side and his becoming Darth Vader.
BTW, does it actually explain the significance of the name of Vader? Heard somewhere that it did.
As Jay once said "Call me... Darth *****!"

None of Lucas's films have had good acting, I don't know why people have picked up on it so much in the 3 prequels.
He has good ideas, but he sure can't direct! If you watch Episode IV, the acting is passable at best. Ford is the only one who really gives a good performance.
When Lucas hands direction over to other people for the next 2, things improve markedly.
If you take these films for what they are, an enjoyable bit of matinee entertainment, they are excellent. If you look for quality film making, you're gonna be disappointed (apart from a CGI perspective).

To be fair to the actors, they had a blue screeen and a very poor script to work with most of the time, which must be a nightmare. They tried, and it shows, but the script really handicaped them.
I was probably expecting too much! I don't want to be too negative, as it's certainly worth a look.

It's a step up from the other two prequels for sure, simply because here is more going on. However, awful script, wooden acting on the whole and (in important places such as some of the lightsabre duals poor camera placement) serve to rob the film of its potential on the excitment and emotional impact fronts.

I agree on the wooden acting - really quite bad in places. I said to the mrs that it would have been so much better with relatively smalltime/unknown actors.
And also agree on the placing of the camera in a few of the lightsabre fight scenes. Glad I wasnt just imagining it.
Was better than the other two. I thought Anakin was played very well indeed and like someone else said, you really did feel for him and padme. I was glad it was a bit darker and more violent and that a Jedi actually kicked some Sith butt (dooku) and finished him off.
I liked the fact they didnt hold back with Anakin taking out the younglings. Would have been a bit much to show it actually happening in a 12a rated film
It was good how the made anakin look just as he was putting on the vader mask. Reminds me of return of the jedi when luke rescues him from the emperor and they take his helmet off.
Annoying part is how clever and perceptive Yoda and the other Jedi masters are yet they cant even sense the Sith master underneath their own frigging noses nor their troops turning against them. Palpatine (and all sith) gain their power from being evil - so where the **** does he do all this seeing as he spends the majority of his life in a politicians seat?
I personally would still rather watch the classic 4,5 & 6. They are just timeless films I enjoy every time I watch them.
Perhaps I just wanted them to be too similar to the originals
Simon.

Strangely, the cinema was half empty on the first night. I expected crowds but I guess that there were so many showings that there were more than enough seats to go around.

A fanboy question I know, but...
If Quigon(sp) knew the secret of how to become a jedi ghost(or whatever), and passed that along to Yoda, who then passed it onto Obi Wan.
How did Anakin become a Jedi Ghost at the end of ROTJ? Since Obi Wan never taught him it? Jedi Ghosts are a light side power, so Vader could'nt have learned it in between...

At the risk of sounding geeky, here's whatI think.........
Anakin was the most powerful Jedi ever, dark or light. Just before his death, he redeemed himself by killing Palpatine to save his son, so he really was still a good guy.
Qui Gon didn't tell Yoda how to do it, he just told him that it happens, therefore, Anakin became a Jedi ghost.
Sound plausible? [retreats to geekdom]

is it just me or does anyone else think that george lucas never had any intent to make any prequels at all and is just cashing in on a recent resurgence in the popularity of the original trilogy...? i think episode IV is so titled to imply that it was part of a continuing saga within the storyline, not necessarily to imply there would be prequels...
any thoughts?

oh yeah, ive no doubt thats not the end of it and theres a whole timeline after return of the jedi...
consider this, get all the original cast together for a sequal...might be knocking on a bit but i bet you could make something out of it...?!

I thought it was a fantastic film, action packed from start to finish and fills the gaps nicely.
People are judging the acting and camera angles too much imo, A New Hope was a shoddy film in many aspects but still remains my personnal favourite of the trilogy.
If you havent seen it yet, go! imo you wont be at all dissapointed.

I went today and was glad to get out, impressive to look at and it was quite interesting how it tied up loose ends but it did drag a bit. I found the whole Council, Republic, Senate waffle confusing and pretty boring, Obi Wan gets posher by the film, think what it misses is Harrison Ford, I think he made the first three films. Also the CGI though amazing is a bit too epic, too much going on at once, the first three were a lot simpler, the battle scence in Revenge of the Sith just had too much going on, didnt know who was fighting who.
Anyone else think Anakin looked exactly like the big brother who turns into a vampire in the Lost Boys ?

I read that James Earl Jones was sick to death of that voice and had to be prompted to utter those few words with huge amounts of cash.
Can't see why really as it's not exactly hard work and it keeps the fans happy.

Saw it today and yes, it does plug some of the gaps that we all know about. Enjoyable, only criticism is that too muh has been packed into the film, from a visual perspective.
There were times when there was so much going on that my head hurt trying to hang on to the story. Still my lad is now a confirmed enthusiast of the Star Wars epic, so much so that we had to sit with him tonight to watch episode 4!
Go see it and make up your own mind.
