No idea on the SAD procedure tbh as mine doesnt have one. It shouldnt be difficult as its just under the dizzy and just sits in the middle of one of the pipes.

Sunroof doesn't leak, though
Might even keep it.
I only paid £280 for mine and it's mint. The last owner paid over a grand to get the head gasket/skim/belts and all 4 tyres renewed, so one of us is laughing

Oh it will.
I've already had an off ebay offer significantly higher than the amount I paid
Thanks for your concern LOL.

Sorry to change topic here a little but I am sure this will get to the right people
We have a problem on the pug. The temperature gauge does not seem to be working where is the sender unit on the 1.9 gti engine ?
Thanks

They are on the side of the thermostat, just right of the inlet manifold.
Wire 47 (side of t/stat and sometimes yellow wire) is the coolant temp switch
Wire 4 (top of t/stat and sometimes red wire) is the coolant temp gauge
They run through the brown multiplug then off up the loom to join another brown multiplug under the steering column.
Try cleaning the connectors, and also clean out the brown multiplug which sits on top of the gearbox.

DW.. as for clutch allignment, just use your eye, or a 1/2" extension bar
Worked for me on the 106 & the scoob.. Ive now cut an input shaft in half from a scoob to use instead!

Anyway, the pic shows the 'ding' so people can't complain - even though they will
I hope the winner picks it up pretty soon after winning as it's going to need another head gasket with the hammer I've been giving it.
Even the Mrs who drives like Miss Daisy has become a nutter in it
I'd definitely get one to keep - but a 1.9. I take it the 1.9 is a fair bit more rapid?

There aint a huge difference. In actual power terms theres only 15bhp between the 2, torque is not far off either.
The 1.9 has longer gearing, so the 1.6 is more eager around the twisties and revs higher. 1.9 is still the daddy as an overall package (better wheels, brakes, seats etc) but put 2 decent drivers in a 1.6 and 1.9 and there isnt much between them. The 1.6 was always said to have better handling balance as well.
Similarly there was never much difference from 0-60 between the 1.6 GTi and the XS.

Your right the standard power is 175 but the torque figure is 170 @ 3000rpm IIRC, mine ate a clutch in a week the peak power is only approx 6250rpm but there is so much flexibility in gear it really makes them easy to drive, part of this might have been the fact that mine was on a 309 GTi (phase 2) so the gearbox ratios are slightly different to the 1.9 205.
Part of the reason I prefer the turbo is I'm not too much a fan of super high revving engines, they are great for the track but for real world driving the low/mid range power of the TT conversion made it really quick on the road.
I never really got round to playing around with the engine (ran out of money ) much more than the standard spec but I believe there is scope to easily get 200bhp out of the engine with minor further mods.
What kind of spec are you running your Mi ?
John.

Spec of mine is as as follows:
- fully rebuilt Mi16, flowed/ported head, Piper 268 cams, modded main bearing shells.
- Emerald programmable ECU running GSXR 750 41mm throttle bodies.
Engine has been RR'd at 180bhp on std induction, so the TB's should be good for another 10-15bhp.
Engine is now fitted in the car (at last), so next job is to wire everything up and sort out the TB's/Emerald etc. Hoping to have it running in the next 8 weeks.

Sounds like a good spec, nice to see a sensible set of cams being used so should still be good at lower rev ranges plus the throttle bodies should help out with the mid-range torque. Whats the mod with the big-end shells, never heard of it before, have the Oil ways been opened up to help prevent running dry?

Usually only the lower shells have oil grooves in them, with the upper shells being plain. Brunswick Racing that built the engine added grooved shells all the way round with the locater tab ground off so it helps in cooling the crank.

I managed to break the bracket on my Track 1.9 GTI Downpipe on Saturday, while unloading it from the trailer
Anyone got a downpipe they want to sell?
