Is a new Impreza due in late summer??

I have seen a very attractive hatchback version in some mags. but has anyone any definative news??

Now, the way I see it is this:-

I have to have a wagon for my dog - but the Saloons hold there value better.

If the 'new' one is a hatch then they will have the same depreciation, good news for dog owners.

If the new one is considered ugly and hated then the deal I can do today would be a wise move.

If the new one is fantastic then the deal done today would be complete folly.

So? when is it due?? September 2005??

The rumours seem to revolve around a facelift (think Bride of Wildenstein ) late this year and an all new hatchback Impreza late 2006.

Pete- Please say you didn't thrash a car with only 13 miles on it!!! :-)

I must say that a blobeye that I drove didn't feel as dramatic as my MY99, but -and this is an important but- I think that was a trick of the power delivery which seems to have been set up to be significantly less aggressive in the new age cars and, of course, the much better refinement. It was still a quick car no question, a look at the speedo confirmed that!

BTW PS Lewis in a modified car!?!?! :-) Surely not! You do know that PPP is now basically a partial Decat and a Exutek 3 map don't you?!?!? ;-)

Regards,

NS04

NS04 - yes, a glimpse at the speedo told me that I was still motoring, and, yes, I gave the 13mile car a bit of a grilling .............. its not the one I would be getting

The wife and daughter also didn't feel that kick in the pants feeling of the Classic .... too much like any other car now!

The Black WRX with 30Kmiles and PPP was an absolutely different animal (yes, I know its Modded BUT, Officially!!) it was simply a dream ..... I did NOT want to hand it back ................... I couldn't wait to return the Standard WRX - it had had the classic spirit removed from it!

Had a drive of the 2.5XT forester yet??

Plenty of room for the dog.... and wife .... and daughter

They go like stink without the need of modification (PPP)

There isnt a new model around the corner to lower your residuals

Maybe not as sporty looking but nice nonetheless, just a thought...

I'll make it for you for less than £100. You might also want to buy shares in Heinz Beans. Not sure how long the back box will last though.

In my opinion there's only one exhaust manufacturer - Hayward and Scott.

Didn't we have a debate once about the point of improving performance?

Told ya the tek upgrades were good
You should try my classic shape with the tek 2 upgrade and performace exhaust (basically a ppp but with no cats ) 279bhp and 264lbft and no problems in the last 2 and a half years touch wood

Mark S - the Forester interested me a bit, but the residuals scare me silly on those

At 76 I don't think I'm old enough for a Forester!!

The PPP seems to add something ... I would NEVER pay £1600 for it though But, as its FREE

I was REALLY taken with the exhaust note ..... not ******** loud, but it really sounded like thunder when you hit 3000RPM. I drove it around the town, just to hear the sound reflected off the walls - and as it wasn't my petrol I could rev it just to hear it!!

It was £15,000 that black WRX PPP - thats just got to be value for money!! Had pimp tints too ..... I felt like a Manchester Drug Baron!!

Bit surprised at this post, and not doubting your experience mate, but I`ve just bought my first Scooby, a brand new standard WRX, and I think it`s rapid.

Admittedly, I`ve never driven a Classic (except once, about 5 years ago for 10 minutes), but I`m used to driving quick cars, and my Scooby is definitely quick, straight out of the box.

Either I`ve just got a good `un, or the standard one you drove had a problem

Evo magazine recently(ish) tested one, and got the 0-60 figure at 5.5 secs. Surely nobody can call that slow, by any stretch of the imagination.

Its slow compared to my Classic, or it APPEARS slow ..... maybe its just the power delivery??

I like the push in the back that my classic gives me - the new WRX simply didn't deliver that (the WRX with PPP did, however!!)

Anyone else here think that the wagon would look better with the flaired wheelarches of the Saloon??

No-one has commented on the £12k + my Impreza Classic Wagon in exchange for the £21,150 WRX Wagon with PPP?? I assume everyone thinks its a fair swap?

i was looking at some pics of a wagon recently, something looked like it was missing. Then i realised it was the lack of flaired arches. Is there a good reason why Subaru decided against them for the 5 door?

I think the arches would look great, but wouldnt that be a huge huge job.

Cool

I'm fairly sure it is the power delivery hat deceives people about the new age WRX cars. If you drive an Sti afterwards, you'll swear blind that it has more than a 40bhp advantage. Now that car does shove you back in the seat, even the non PPP version!!.

I just think that now Subaru UK officially sell the STi in the UK they've been compelled to make the WRX a less agressive in its delivery and more refined etc. I'm sure that -if there is any objective difference between a blobeye and a classic- it's very marginal. It's just that the classic feels more akin to the new STi in character, so if you like that, you'll probably need to the STi or at least the WRX with PPP.

Yes, the WRX needs the PPP to even stand a chance against a Classic.

I recon that that is a bloody good price. A mate of mine sold a 99 4 door, ppp'd with 40k on the clock private for 7k a few months ago. If you are serious, take your car down & try & push for a little more but like I said, a good price.

i go out on our thur meets with a few lads and they drive classics and a type R, i drive a MY01 WRX (standard) and they never leave me behind.

At the end of the day it's how you drive these cars.

By the sound of your car pete from what you've said in previous posts on this thread, about the way your classic wagon slings you back in your seat, im must have missed you at the scooby shootout yesterday.

Thanks Simon, yes, I thought it was quite good too. he said it books at about £8k P/Ex. but would go further.

I didn't even try and haggle as I wasn't sure about the car ..... I think with haggling I could 'possibly' get another few £100 off??

Everywhere seems desperate for custom these days?

Seriously pete you cannot compare a car thats done 13 miles with one thats really loosened up..!

I think the newage cars need even more running in than previous models..!

I've posted about this many times but, my 05 wrx recently passed the 5000 mile marks and WOW what a difference and keeps getting better..!

The other week my brother had a 05 wrx ppp, with 300 or so miles on it, on demo for the afternoon. So, as you do, we gave them a run and there was nothing between them at any speed, even swapping drivers..!

I was well pleased with my std. cars performance, however I realise the PPP car was obvioulsy still tight..!

IMHO I wouldn't be fitting PPP until I've done 6k at least.

Jason

PS pleased to hear you liked a newage scoob.

I know the mileage was very low ..... it was the power delivery that I didn't like maybe??

I like the 'shove-in-your-back' of the Classic.

I don't like the sedate gentle power delivery, fast though it may be - the PPP added that kidney punch the Impreza has been famous for!

Went from a classic MY00 saloon impreza to a 04 WRX saloon, and your right about the power delivery it seems really smooth, not like the classic which used to throw me back in the seats when I put my foot down, was thinking the otherday if I still made the right choice or should I have gone for a P1 for the same amount of money I paid for my WRX, but the WRX is better built and more grow up, and a good example was the otherday when I was behind a classic shape impreza, when we drove past a group of kids they all looked at the classic impreza and didnt even look at my car or even notice it.

But at least the MAF sensor hasnt gone yet, so they must be better built.

Its true, the Classic Impreza is THE cult car .... the others are just a little too soft, could I live without that shove??

Maybe not, thats why it MUST have PPP at the very least

Dont get me wrong my 04 WRX feels quick enough with 225bhp, but its when you have to show these boy racers up and your not pulling away from them as much as you did in the classic, it starts to get annoying, I know that I could spend a load of money to make it quicker, but when theres talk about a new scooby coming out I dont really want to be wasting my money on it for it to be a old shape scooby next year, when I could be spending it on the classic shape which is half the price of my car and more exciting to drive and lets face it better looking.

Is PPP really that good!

PPP does appear to do the magic things ..... but, I certainly wouldn't pay £1600 for it!! (I mean, its an ECU Exchange and BackBox .... £1600 is taking the ****)

BUT, as its FREE at the moment ......... and worth that, at least.

The MY00 Classic is still the one to have - but, unmolested ones are getting to be like Rocking Horse **** ............ is that why mine is worth a pretty penny to the dealer, sight unseen??

Correction Pete - the MY99 was the UK Turbo to have (not counting P1 & STIs etc ), as the MY00 has the awful ECU

My car had the MY99 ecu but was registered as a MY00, when I had it mapped at TSL using Ecutek they said that the ecu's on MY99/00 cars was harder to map then the newer cars, but I thought MY99 and MY00 had the same ecu.
