Obviously a major decider when you go to buy car...

No matter about running costs, insurance, how it handles - just tell me - has it got map reading lights?

The MY00 also added the nicer 6 spoke wheel design, plus,

Other changes include colour coded mirrors and door handles, adjustable intermittent wiper speeds, a metallic fascia, map reading lights and a new gear ****.

Like I said ............ THE one to have!!

Many reasons are being given .......

Take your pick, one things for sure though .... They aren't giving it away because they are nice people, no, they feel like they HAVE to do it to sell the new cars.

The why? is a mystery.

I love it to bits!

Hardly anything cause they are there to make money, but a car with that many miles on would be better off sold private ot to a enthusiast, not many cars 6 years old with that many miles on and are pretty rare.

I think you're absolutely right mate! Dealers would just see a near 6 year old car when giving me any money and only take the low mileage into account when they were selling it!!

Wouldn't part with it though

Pete.

Just another echo about the new age wagons. I like you had the 'one to have' a nice DBM MY00 wagon before swapping for an MY05 WRX (Wagon of course, the discerning choice ).

The new car is a better all round car. No it does not give you the same shove in the back but it is mapped so much smoother than the classic. Mine has passed 6K now and is loosening up all the time, yes my MY00 was quicker but because of the weight/insulation and better build quality the sensation of speed in the MY05 isn't there in the same way

The MY05 is a much nicer place to be, it's also better on fuel and handles better than the MY00. It so much smoother when cold and does not suffer that annoyong lumpy bit at about 2.8K revs that the MY00 did.

What the MY05 does need is a meatier sound (it's just tooooo quiet) and a bit more feeling of ooooomph that the MY00 gave you .... hence the perfect package with PPP.

Cost wise : I got the free servicing deal, my tyres seem to wearing well (and are better than the Toyo's all round on my last car) and it's better on fuel. My insurance is about £450 from Norwich Union (no tracker) so in 3 years will cost me much less to run the the MY00.

You'll make your own mind up. I'm happy with my MY05 wagon but am planning PPP to bring back some sound and punch back to it.

Avalyn.
P.S. I got 10K for my MY00 wagon with FSSH and 46K miles on it about 6 months ago from a main dealer

Avalyn - thanks for that, you are coming from exactly the place I am.

The standard WRX just didn't give that all important 'shove' ... the PPP addresses that (and the noise is fantastic!)

I have never been one for mods. and I wouldn't think of having my cars modified unless done within the design parameters of the Engine and running gear - the PPP is fully approved and its FREE!!

£10k for your MY00 Wagon is interesting, slightly more than I was offered - but the dealer hadn't seen mine (maybe turn up with a polished example and he might push the £10k to clinch the deal?)

I am getting close, very close - but my old Classic Wagon has been superb and it will be a wrench to put it into the dealers

The new cars are, without doubt, more refined ..... but if you wanted refinement there are better cars out there - its all about that 'push-back-in-the-seat' and it appears that can only be felt with the PPP package.

As an aside, I assume that the PPP exhaust will still pass an MOT??

It should pass MOT at any Subaru garage anyway as my MY00 Classic PPP did. Both cats are left intact and noise isnt boy racer loud. Although you may find this thread intresting http://bbs.scoobynet.co.uk/showthread.php?t=421548
I cant wait to see outcome of this with the Police vs Subaru UK

Pete,

1) Do it whilst there is a good offer
2) It will still pass the MOT easily: the newage cars have 3 cats to start off with!
3) Even if you got rid of them all and had a remap to suit, you'd be enjoying the shove in the back far too much to care about the trail of environmental destruction that'd be left in your wake. Even non PPP cars have been known to suck the occassional bird into the intercooler scoop......just for fun!
4) Real men order one with gold wheels!

Why is that then??

Pete

The dealer said that some buyers were not declaring the PPP to their Insurance Company!!
bit weird.

just picked up my STi with free PPP fitted.

never mentioned anything about the 1000mile service.

Well, I would check about that if I were you!!

I think it has some running-in oil in it ..... please don't thrash the thing until AFTER the 1,000mile Service!

Pete,

My MY00 was a FSSH car, prodrive alloys (17's), fully colour coded (i.e. sills etc) and was always polished within an inch of it's life

I didn't get much discount on the MY05 I bought hence (probably) the higher trade in price. If you are getting a substantial discount then what you have been offered is probably pretty good

I certainly didn't buy the car for it's refinement .. only commenting it's more refined than an MY00. This definitely removes some of the sensation of speed, I actually think that up to about 4K the new cars feel a bit more torquey .. it certainly seems to sing better to the redline (after 1000 miles obviously ) than the MY00.

As others have said the any PPP car will pass an MOT (STi included) no problems at all.

I just felt as though my MY00 was starting to feel a bit woolly (certainly felt as though it could have benefitted from new springs/shocks) and had started to cost me a bit of money (60K service etc) and I had itchy feet whenever I saw a new wagon.

I do miss my MY00 as it seemed to have a bit more character to it but I'm sure when I add the PPP to my new MY05 wagon I'll have the perfect car for me

Avalyn.

I tried to find the link to the **** Oil Change thread to help the bloke out - and couldn't (but then I'm a bit thick!! )

If someone could post a link here, then he can take it in on the 1,000mile service and ask them to carry out the correct procedure .... while he watches, in case it all goes wrong and the Engine blows up 100 yards down the road!!

What about a Honda then??

And I don't want anyone recommending the Civic to me just hoping I would plague the Civic TypeR Forums instead of here!!

Pete,

Much as we'd miss you

You wouldn't like the Type R- No shove in the back cause of the relatively low torque. Very effective if you're on a mission in the high end of the rev range, but too much like hard work otherwise.

If you like the shove, you've gotta go for a Big capacity or a turbo!

Bulletproof cars apparently, though!

Maybe, but look at all the disadvantages:-

No free PPP

No decent Part/Ex. - I've been offered £9k for mine, which would easily go up to £9.5k if I pushed

The Saloon is, what? £19k as a UK? thats only £3k more expensive .... you would gain ALL that advantage back come resale time - you know that putting 'IMPORT' in a car ad. kills interest completely, don't you?

So, all in all - the difference isn't worth cheesing off your local dealer for is it? You may need his help one day, you may need some warranty help, some courstedy car, some advantage over those who imported and he hates!!

Its simply not worth it these days ...... the EU Import would need to be £13k to make the sums add up.

Hi Pete
The car you drove only had 13 miles on it so hardly run in. All the mechanicals are likely to be tight and not give a fair representation. Better seeing if you could drive one with a few miles on the clock.

When i bought my my99 i drove the demo with 3k on the clock, admittedly i was in a vectra 2l so the difference was marked.

I am sure there are plenty of scooby owners that would love to meet you and let you have a blast in their cars.
