Right!..... the P1 is a f**king fantastic motor!!! f**k the new shape imprezas cos they look nasty by comparison! They are fast, handle brilliantly and turn more heads than any new age 5 DOOR scoob! They only go pop if they have been maltreated and not had regular oil changes (every 3K). Not as much of a 'DRIVER' car as the type R but they are very friendly and forgiving and inspire more confidence than arnie when he won mr. universe!
Definately buy a P1 it is a fabulous all round impreza. Just make sure it has been looked after and serviced well!
as for Adam M who recks that a new V8 can out run a P1. What a load of crap!! I wasted a version 8 the other week on a country back lane... and why??? because they only come with 265BHP as standard!!! have more doors which make it a less rigid chassis (although they are good anyway) and the difference in handling is so little that it shouldnt be a deciding factor on buying either car (oh and they weigh more too). They both handle fantastically but the P1 will hold its value better, is more limited and looks 10,00000000000 times better.
P1 is the way forward just buy one... i promise you will not regret it!

70-90in 4th-4.0 70-90in4th 6.5
a huge difference in performance terms and all the other increments are the same with an even grater gap with both cars in 5th. god, i must be bored to post this!

Hey guys, some very interesting facts and figures there
I do have to say though, the 182 is a fantastic car and its main purpose wasnt for straightline drags or overtaking Imprezas, the overall package makes it the best hot hatch available (according to magazine features - havent driven a CTR so cant comment on those). I'm sure if Subaru went down the hot hatch route then maybe they could manufacture something that would take the Renaults crown, but dont think they ever well because they dont really have to.
I opted for the P1 over the other Imprezas because I love the shape, the fact it has 2 doors, its performance and mpg, running costs and its rareness - coming from Cumbria there arent too many about.
The Type R is a great looking motor too, identical you could say, but I would rather stick with a UK car than an import and added to that the handling and ride issues I think I'd rather sacrifice a little performance and stick with the P1.
The bugeye shape hasnt won me over at all. Dont know what it is. My mate has a 51 and its a lovely motor, mica green and the Morette lights do it a lot of favours. The sound is fantastic but if it was a choice of Imprezas it would definitely be the P1 or a new shape STi, and the P1 still has the baton in my eyes.
Not many petrol stations in Cumbria come with 100RON fuel as standard, but most do BP Ultimate or Optimax and I'm pretty sure it wont be long until Tesco shift their 99RON up here too. Dont know much about this Octane Booster but I'm prepared to learn and also look after the engine every 3k miles oil change if this is whats needed.
Tried to register at the P1woc but havent received my email yet.
Top site this though and found some great looking motors and information, even though I only registered to see if I could find out any more P1 info!

Scutch,
I think you misunderstood my PM slightly. There aren't any petrol stations supplying 100RON fuel in the UK, I was talking about using Optimax and a booster. Give me a shout when you get it and I'll let you know some good suppliers.

I've had my P1 for nearly 2 years now and i still dont want to swap it for anything else. They look awesome.
If you can pick up a copy of 'Used Car Buyer', issue October 2004. In there it explains why the P1 is one of the best Imprezas you can buy. Also look back in some EVO magazines and the P1 gets rave reviews.
Cheers

Tony, I dont understand your point really.
Andyscoobs said "one of the best imprezas ever made" not the best, EVO magazine seem to agree with that.
My personal opinion for what its worth, is I agree the RB5 is another superb impreza, if I ever wanted 4 doors I would seriously consider one.
