Remember the 246 dino, even the Magnum style 308 GTS - then look at the Testarossa, 348, 360 - revolting by comparison (ok i accept some like the 360..)
BMW were ruined by employing the wrong stylist - just look at the weird mixture of tortured lines on recent models...BMWs have been predictably very stylish for years - til the new 'design theme'....how long before Subaru realise they have been dragged down another stylist's ego pipedream (what DO they smoke in those pipes..?)

Said it before and will say it here, I like it, just need to change the black in the grills for a bit of mesh maybe.
Will be going to Subaru on Monday, for some work to be done. I had better stay well clear of the sales desks.
Who knows when it will be available to own please?

Is it better than the Bug Eye Cookie
I definately prefer it to the Bug Eye (what you reckon cookie, i know you like your Bug Eye ) personnaly i'd rather have the current model over this upcoming version but you can't really decide till you see it in the skin.

Think Subaru have lost the plot now. I prefer the Impreza over the Evo until the bug eye. Now think i would buy an Evo over Subarus last couple if Imprezas, the 330 bhp and up evos look a bit better. They just dont have the same draw as the pre bug eye Imprezas. Cant see me selling my car anytime soon, just have to hope Subaru get it right again. Anyone any ideas on why the big change in looks? Is it performance reasons, or are they just aiming at a wider market now. Would have been great if the had focused on performance, handling, interior and a few external touches on the classics.

Looks like a SEAT Ibiza to me, no bad thing. I mean, it looks alright but I'm more of a classic man myself - personal preference. The pedegree is still there though - I think!!

Actually the above picture is a photoshop one....but not too disimilar to the new shape which can be seen in Auto Express. Scoop is smaller and front bumper different and lights.

I think the grill would be better without the middle oval bit - it's too fussy. And I would prefer double headlamps instead of the big blobby ones. And the scoop is too big - it makes the car look top heavy and stodgy - although if it's there for performance reasons then so be it.
In short, I'd like the new age shape, but incorporating a classic style grill and morette style lights. The nearest I'll get is a bugeye with morettes.

Not so sure about that new front......
It's very Alfa, but without the style, and following a severe thrashing with the ugly stick.
Headlights are subtly different to the current model as well, slightly stretched and bit odd looking, maybe feminine (?).
Maybe they'll be offerring it in pink soon with blue sti badges instead and a matching pink interior option
Adding to someone's comment above, from the appearance of the bugeye, Subaru definitelly appear to be aiming more at a wider audience. the way the car drives from that point is a clear indication. More sound proofing, smoother delivery of power, lighter controls, numb steering. All these things are for the people who want to drive a fast comfy sofa. not for enthusiasts.
I don't think Subaru could ever become mainstream like such as Ford for example as they cost too much. Very much a niche product IMO.
As for appealing to the wider market, I thnk only a father could love that child whcih I think may well cause people to either rush out and buy ahead of it, or wait, or go somewhere else (Mitsi maybe?)

And yes, the MY99 is a better car than the MY00 - who gives a **** about having map-lights?
The ECU was better on the MY99. Fact.
I would also asy (as I've said before) - this new Subaru is as butt-ugly as the older "facelifts".
The more Subaru mess with a poor styling design (IMHO), the less rate my Classic depreciates!!!
Still it will be interesting to see what any new models look like
