I've got a Fast Lane magazine from about 1982 with that number plate on a gold Lamborghini Countach.
Car was only 2 years old but had major rust in all welds on chassis, was going to cost a fortune to sort because it was so awkward to get into.
General consensus was that it was a dog as there was a massive list of defects..Italians eh..

i saw yesterday whilst going over the QE2 Bridge, 3486 as the plate on the front and 3486 with slightly smaller lettering of GBG on the bottom right of the back plate, both number plates were black with white writing. Any ideas what type of plate this is

i think the car was a black Merc, not sure what model though.

Its a standard plate for use in Guernsey in the Channel Islands.
The Jersey plates have a 'J' then a number. Also often black background with either white or silver letters.

It wasn't 1AN you saw as that plate is on a Morris Minor and the DVLA won't let the owner transfer it off for some reason.

Ha, thats brilliant!

Best one i have ever seen was P1L0T on a Jag a few years back about a month after it has had a feature at auction on Top Gear.

Also seen 8MW on an M3, which was pretty cool.
